Best Early Game OS Tuning Upgrades
OS Name | Description | Cost and Details |
---|---|---|
Boost Kick (System Unlocks) | Unlocks the ability to perform a Boost Kick. Boost Kicks hit with heavy impact by combining the speed of an Assault Boost with the sheer weight of the AC.
Press L3 during Assault Boost: Boost Kick |
Requires 1 OST Chip to unlock.
Useful kick move that can be used during Assault Boost. You can throw out this move as many times as you want. Despite being quite difficult land sometimes, it can build up a significant amount of ACS load on the enemy that you hit with it. Boost Kick is also cheap to unlock at 1 OST Chip, making it good to get in the early game. |
Quick Turn (System Unlocks) | Unlocks the Quick Turn feature, allowing the AC to perform snap turns to side or rear directions.
○ + Tilt Left Analog Stick: Quick Turn |
Requires 1 OST Chip to unlock.
Getting Quick Turn vastly improves the mobility of your AC as it allows you to change directions at high speed (either to the side or to any opposite direction). Unlocking Quick Turn also makes Assault Boost a little easier to control. |
Pulse Armor (Core Expansion) | Unlocks Core Expansion: Pulse Armor and allows it to be installed. Pulse Armor creates a pulse barrier that trails the AC, dramatically increasing defensive performance until it exceeds its durability or time limit.
L3 + △: Activate Pulse Armor |
Requires 4 OST Chips to unlock.
Most versatile and reliable survivability option out of all Core Expansion upgrades, especially during boss battles. |
ACS – Dynamic Deflection Control Tuning (Attack Control) | Improves the precision of ACS-based bracing posture control, reducing damage received from enemy attacks. | This OS is extremely useful since you will be learning how to avoid getting hit when going through the main missions for the first time. Being able to reduce damage taken is always good.
Maxing out this upgrade gives you up to 15% total damage reduction which is recommended as you progress through the game’s later missions. |
How to Respec OS Tuning Upgrades
Can be reset using COAM.
To respec your ACs OS Tuning upgrades, press the △ button while on the OS Tuning menu. You will, however, need to pay the COAM fee if you want to get back all of the OST Chips you spent to unlock upgrades. Note that you do not want to be doing this repeatedly as it is a waste of money so try to plan which upgrades suit your playstyle and AC build before purchasing anything.

How to Get OST Chips
Clear Arena mode battles.
OST Chips are rewarded for clearing Arena mode battles for the first time. As you go further into the main story, more rival ACs are unlocked in the Arena so try to spend time taking them down to earn as many chips as possible.
