You can create a seasonal character in Diablo 4 from the main menu after logging into the game, regardless if you have cleared the main story campaign or not. Below are the steps to make a seasonal character to access most of the released Season of the Malignant content.
Steps to Create a Seasonal Character (Seasonal Realm)
| 1 | Log in to Diablo 4. |

| 2 | From the main menu, select Create New Character on the left side of the screen. |
| 3 | Choose your preferred class. |
| 4 | Choose Skip Campaign (if you already cleared the main story campaign). |
| 5 | Choose Seasonal Realm to start the game with Season of the Malignant content added. |
Should new players clear the main story campaign first before starting a Season 1 playthrough?
In general, new players should only create a seasonal character to begin Season 1 only after you have cleared the game’s main story campaign (Eternal Realm). This is because the Season of the Malignant story campaign quests can only be accessed once you have beaten the base game.
Afterwards, simply choose Skip Campaign when creating your seasonal character to dive into Season of the Malignant content, including Season 1 Journey rewards and new end-game features such as Malignant Sockets and Malignant Hearts.
