Post-Game Unlockables Guide for Diablo 4: What to Do After the Story Campaign

Whispers of the Dead (New Priority Quest)

Whispers Event

After defeating the final boss, talk to Lorath at the waypoint to trigger the Whispers of the Dead Priority Quest.

Clear the Whispers event by heading to the areas marked with the Whisper of the Dead icon to earn 10 Grim Favors.

Earn rewards for 10 Grim Favors.

Interact with the Tree of Whispers with at least 10 Grim Favors accumulated to receive a treasure chest containing EXP and items.

You can select one of three types of treasure chests to receive the rewards.

Redeem rewards as many times as you like.

The Whispers of the Dead quests can be attempted as many times as you like.

You can get EXP and rewards for every 10 Grim Favors you earn, making it one of the best ways to strengthen your character during the post-game stages.

Nightmare Difficulty (World Tier 3)

Cathedral of Light (Map)

Cathedral of Light (In-Game)

Clearing the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon on Veteran difficulty (World Tier 2) unlocks Nightmare difficulty (World Tier 3).

Raise your character level to 50 before attempting the Cathedral of Light.

The Cathedral of Light dungeon is extremely challenging to clear if you are not significantly leveled as enemies and bosses will be quite powerful.

Try to level up your character to around level 50. It is also recommended to make go over your skills and equipment before entering the post-game dungeon.

As much as possible, try to take on the dungeon using equipment that increases your mobility to avoid the boss’ three consecutive three-way attacks. This also useful for fighting the Elite enemies along the way who can teleport towards you.

Things to Do After Clearing the Story Campaign

Paragon Board

Skill system that unlocks at character level 50.

The Paragon Board is a skill system that becomes accessible once your character reaches level 50.

At level 50, your character’s EXP bar is replaced with the Paragon Board to accommodate the accumulation of Paragon Points instead of Skill Points.

You can raise your character’s base stats by spending Paragon Points on the Paragon Board.

Nightmare Dungeons

Post-game dungeons exclusive to Nightmare difficulty.

Nightmare Dungeons are dungeons that can only be accessed when playing on Nightmare difficulty (World Tier 3).

Nightmare Sigils are required to enter Nightmare Dungeons.

To enter Nightmare Dungeons, you must obtain special items called Nightmare Sigils.

You can get Nightmare Sigils from the Whispers of the Dead event quests reward caches.

Each Nightmare Sigil is tied to a specific dungeon in the game.

By using the Nightmare Sigil, the dungeon mentioned in the Whispers of the Dead event will be upgraded to a Nightmare Dungeon.

This upgrade is temporary as a Nightmare Dungeon will be reverted back to its normal state once you have cleared it.

If you use a dungeon’s associated Nightmare Sigil again, you can upgrade and enter its Nightmare variant again.

Helltide

Random events exclusive to Nightmare difficulty.

Helltides are a type of random event that can only occur when playing on Nightmare difficulty (World Tier 3).

You can check when the event is active if you see a section of the region dyed red on the map.

Lasts for 1 hour.

Helltide events last for one (1) hour.

After the duration is over, the event ends and the area previously in Helltide state will return to normal conditions.

Collect Aberrant Cinders by killing monsters during Helltide to open Tortured Chests.

Defeating monsters in the event area rewards you with a unique currency called Aberrant Cinders.

Aberrant Cinders can then be used to unlock Tortured Chests which may contain Legendary gear. Note that you can spend 75 or 125 Aberrant Cinders collected from Helltide events to open these rare containers.
