Game Overview

God of War Ragnarok is the sixth installment to the critically-acclaimed God of War series of action-adventure games. It is a sequel to God of War released in 2018 then-exclusively on the Playstation 4 which began the franchise’s narrative to venture into Norse mythology.

Continuing the story of the demigod Kratos and his son Atreus three years after the previous game, the duo find themselves on a mission to prevent Ragnarok, a prophesied catastrophe set to bring about the destruction of the world.

Throughout their journey, encounter new mythological figures, including Tyr, the Norse God of War and Odin, King of Norse Gods. Returning characters include Thor, Norse God of Thunder and Freya, the Vanir goddess.

God of War Ragnarok’s retains many of the 2018 release’s gameplay elements such as the use of various skills and abilities to accommodate its combo-based combat, directing Atreus to provide support in various situations, and exploration with puzzle sections to progress through different areas of the main story.

New features in the game include the addition of different types of shields which now have more versatility in battle. Players are now able to use shields both defensively and offensively by gaining access to unique moves instead of being limited to blocking and parrying seen in the previous game.

Atreus’ support role has also been improved, owing to his growth as a warrior under the guidance of his battle-tested father. In God of War Ragnarok, Kratos’ son can perform longer combos, initiate combat by himself, and use more powerful magic abilities as a result of his maturing over the years.
