Realms are distinct worlds containing all gods and living things, and they all exist on the branches of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. During the course of God of War Ragnarok, players will visit all nine worlds.

There are nine realms in total, three of which are brand new to the series: Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, and Asgard. Because each location will have unique flora and fauna, the gameplay will undoubtedly be varied.

Returning Realms

Realm Information
Midgard
  • Detail: A land once inhabited by humans and other races, but now ravaged by undead after Odin sealed the Valkyries away. Midgard is now a desolate, icy wasteland.
Alfheim
  • Detail: The Elves’ Realm, where Dark Elves and Light Elves have been at odds for centuries. Alfheim has beautiful forests, ruins, and waterways, but it is also just as dangerous as any other place.
Helheim
  • Detail: Helheim, also known as Hel, is the place where beings go after they die. Helheim is a frozen Realm where Hel-Walkers torment the dead.
Muspelheim
  • Detail: Muspelheim is a Realm of fire and volcanic matter where massive giants sleep and warriors can put their skills to the test by completing a series of challenges.
Nilfheim
  • Detail: A misty Realm once inhabited by Dwarves, where mazes trap visitors and the mist drains their life.
Jotunheim
  • Detail: Jotunheim, once the Realm of the Frost Giants, is now a barren land of enormous mountains and giant corpses that fill your view of the horizon.

New Realms

Realm Information
Svartalfheim
  • Detail: The Dwarves’ home, where they create masterpieces of weaponry and all manner of fantastic machinery. Svartalfheim is a lovely world where nature and civilization coexist.
Vanaheim
  • Detail: A strange, alien-like Realm once ruled by Freya and home to the Vanir gods and strange, vividly colored flora.
Asgard
  • Detail: The Aesir gods’ home, and where the greatest warriors go after dying in battle.
