Carry-Over Features Guide for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (CoD: MW3)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (CoD: MW3) lets you carry over weapons, skins, and other gameplay elements from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (CoD: MW2) into the game via the Carry Forward system.

Weapons
All weapons from CoD: MW2 can be transferred to CoD: MW3.
It is, however, not possible to transfer weapons from CoD: MW3 to CoD: MW2.
Summary of Weapon Carry-Over Mechanics
Carry-Over Elements (MW2 to MW3)
- All weapons from MW2 can be carried over to MW3.
- To carry over weapons, you need to have unlocked the weapon in MW2.
- You can also carry over the blueprints of weapons.
- Store-limited weapon blueprints can also be purchased in MW3.
- New players in MW3 can get all weapons that appear in MW2 (requires completing additional weapon unlock challenges).
- Weapons available in MW3: New base weapons in MW3, base weapons and weapon levels carried over from MW2, and limited-time base weapon in MW2.
- New weapons from MW3 cannot be transferred to MW2.
Weapon Level
About Weapon Level
- If you raise a weapon’s level in MW3, the weapon level will be shared with MW2 (and vice versa).
- Attachments and camouflage obtained by leveling up weapons are also shared between MW3 and MW2.
- Player rank and prestige are separate for MW3 and MW2.
Attachments
About Attachments
- All attachments from MW2 can be carried over to MW3.
- Attachments from MW2 can be used on new weapons from MW3.
Operator Skins
About Operator Skins
- All operators and skins unlocked in MW2 can be carried over to MW3.
- All operators and skins which can be carried-over include those obtained through normal unlocks, challenge unlocks, paid unlock, as well as PS limited operators.
- Players who do not own MW2 cannot use the default skins of operators appearing in MW2 (including limited-time operators).
- Operators obtained through the season pass for MW2 can be carried over.
- There is no way to obtain limited-time operators and skins from MW2 until they become purchasable in MW3.
- The name of the operator is unified in MW2 and MW3 (for example: Captain Price – MW2 Version and Captain Place – MW3 version are not the same, but Captain Pride is used in both MW2 and MW3 so the name will be unified).
- Everything that appears in MW3 can be carried over from MW2.
Operator Cosmetics
About Cosmetics
- All cosmetic items such as charms, stickers, emblems, and loading screens from MW2 can be carried over to MW3.
- Vehicle skins can be carried over with some exceptions.
- Battle BGM cannot be carried over.
- Unlocking calling cards through in-game challenges in MW2 can only be used in MW2, but if it has already been unlocked, the calling card can be carried over.
Camouflage
About Camouflage
- Camouflage obtained in MW2 cannot be used on new weapons in MW3.
- Camouflages obtained in MW3 cannot be used on old weapons in MW2.
- If you do not have the camouflage obtained in MW2′, you can also unlock it in MW3.
- In MW3, more camouflage can be obtained from completion rewards and challenges (these only be used on new weapons in MW3).
Mastery Camo
About Mastery Camouflage
- All weapon camouflage from MW2 can be carried over to MW3.
- You can carry over limited-time skins if you have unlocked them.
- Universal skins obtained from events in MW2 cannot be used on new weapons in MW3.
Tactical and Lethal Equipment Skins
About Tactical and Lethal Equipment Skins
Everything that appears in MW3 can be carried over from MW2.
Things that Carry-Over from Warzone to MW3.
Carry-Over Elements (Warzone to MW3)
- Warzone content already acquired in MW2 will be carried over to Warzone from MW3.
- New content in Warzone from MW3 will be applied at the start of Season 1 of MW3.
- The content that can be used in MW2 acquired in Warzone will be carried over to MW3.
- Vehicle skins, lethal equipment skins, and tactical equipment skins do not carry over.
- Battle BGM cannot be carried over.

- All unlocked operators, weapons, blueprints, cosmetics, and other equipment can be used in Warzone.

Is there any point in buying MW2 now?
No point in purchasing MW2 if you have MW3.
All the weapons in MW2 can be unlocked in MW3, so there is really no point in buying the former.
Can items currently sold in the MW2 store be used in MW3 as well?
Items labeled with MW3 compatibility can be used in MW2.
If a MW2 item is labeled to have compatibility with MW3 at the MW2 store, it can be used in MW3 as well.
