Game Difficulty Guide for all Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (CoD: MW3)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (CoD: MW3) features four (4) type of difficulty to choose from at the start of the game’s main story campaign. These are Recruit, Regular, Hardened, and Veteran difficulty modes.

Which Difficulty Should You Choose?

For beginners and new players, Regular difficulty is recommended.

For beginners and new players with no prior experience with the Call of Duty series, it is recommended to choose Regular difficulty. This allows you to fully experience the story campaign on the game’s default setting which serves as the best starting point for learning the game’s controls, mechanics, and techniques (especially aiming).

Once you have at least gone through the game’s first two campaign missions, feel free to adjust the difficulty to your preferences from the game’s settings.

For old players,  choose Veteran difficulty.

Players who are familiar with the games and FPS titles in general should play on Veteran difficulty as this allows you to unlock the 141 Ready achievement (Gold trophy) immediately along with the Never Bury Your Enemies Alive  achievement (Gold trophy) once you beat all story campaign missions.

Note that this is the only difficulty-related achievement to obtain in the game if you are aiming for 100% completion (Platinum trophy). There are no trophies rewarded for playing through the story missions on any other specific game mode.

141 Ready (Gold Trophy)

As mentioned above, clearing the game’s campaign mode on Veteran difficulty unlocks the 141 Ready achievement. To save time, you could set your difficulty to Veteran even on your first playthrough to get the achievement fast.

Difficulty can be changed at any time from the game’s settings menu.

The game difficulty you choose at the start of the campaign can be adjusted at any time during play from the game’s settings. Because of this, feel free to select any game mode you want to play on in the beginning of the game.
