What is Call of Duty: MW3 (2023)?

A direct sequel to Call of Duty: MW2 (2022).

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2023) is a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 released in 2022. Modern Warfare 3 is the twentieth game in the acclaimed Call of Duty series of first-person shooter games and is the third installment in the Modern Warfare reboot sub-series.

Story Campaign

Modern Warfare 3’s story campaign again follows the previous game’s special operations unit Task Force 141 as they hunt down the Russian terrorist and war criminal Vladimir Makarov who is bent on starting a third world war.

As with the game’s predecessor, Task Force 141 leader Captain Price and his team must travel across modern-day locations and infiltrate the enemy threat’s network of operations.

In addition to most campaign mode mechanics from Modern Warfare 2 being carried over to the sequel, new “Open Combat Missions” have been implemented. These allow player a greater sense of freedom in how they want to accomplish each mission’s objective.

Multiplayer

In terms of multiplayer, Modern Warfare 3 will include modernized versions of all 16 launch maps from Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Accompanying these redesigned combat areas are new game modes and features not available in the 2009 title. Twelve new 6v6 maps will also be added to Modern Warfare 3 via post-launch live sessions.

Zombies Mode (MWZ)

Zombies mode also makes it return as an open-world co-op PVE game mode in the sequel. Modern Warfare 3 Zombies (MWZ) consists of new Treyarch Zombies storyline missions, zombie mechanics, and secrets to unlock throughout the updated survival game mode.
