Check the monster size icon.
Some monsters have a naturally large appearance, but that does not mean they are categorized as large-size monsters. Check the icon on the upper-left side of the monster’s name to determine its size. The letter L stands for Large, whereas the letter S stands for Small.
Monsters can be synthesized to create large monsters.
Monster size is usually inherited when synthesizing monsters of the same size. However, there are a few factors that can influence the synthesis’s outcome, which could lead to the creation of large-scale monsters.
The Mole Hole game mode contains large monsters.

How to Synthesize Large Monsters
Synthesize two large monsters.
Perhaps the easiest way to obtain a large monster through Synthesis is to synthesize two large monsters. The outcome of Synthesis will inherit the size of both the large monsters used in the process. In addition, there’s a dungeon included in the DLC wherein you can encounter monsters that you already have on your roster and another dungeon where you can encounter large monsters.
Synthesizing large and small monsters may create a large monster.
As mentioned before, there are monsters that are categorized as small but look big in appearance. Despite being categorized as small monsters, these monsters may produce large monsters when paired or synthesized with a true large monster.
Monster size affects stats.
Monsters of a smaller size are more agile, whereas those of a larger size can withstand more attacks. This is why you should consider the monster’s size before adding them to your main party and select those that fit or are compatible with your other monsters in your party.
