What is Monster Synthesis?

Major gameplay features that lets you breed monsters.

Monster synthesis in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQ Monsters: The Dark Prince) is a feature that allows you to create various monsters by combining two monsters that you have. The monsters that are born tend to be stronger than their parents and depending on the combination of monsters a rare monsters can be born.

Sparkling in Synthesis (Shiny Monsters)

When the monster sparkles in synthesis, it means that a stronger monster than the usual was born. The sparkling effect increases the upper limit of one random stat to +100, so there is a big difference in the final stats between a normal monster and a shiny monster.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Shiny Monsters Guide

An monster offspring’s stats is 1/4 of both their parents total stats.

The stats of the offspring born from a synthesis inherits 1/4 of the combined stats of the two parents, so the higher the stats of the two parents when synthesized, the higher the resulting offspring’s initial stats.

Parents skills and skills points are also inherited.

Offspring born from synthesis will inherit the skills and skill points of the two parents. The number of skills that can be inherited is up to 3 for both S and L size monster.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Skill Point Guide

Monster offspring inherit 50% of parents’ skill points.

Monsters created through synthesis can inherit half of the SP accumulated by each of their parents in addition to both parents’ skills. This means that you can level up monsters accumulate SP and then synthesize them to grant the resulting offspring a higher initial SP to work with.

The table below illustrates the amount of SP transferred by monster parents to offspring via synthesis.

Parent 1 SP Parent 2 SP
60 100
Transferred SP Transferred SP
60/2 = 30 100/2 = 50
Offspring SP
30 + 50 = 80
Skills may evolve depending on the skills of the parents

Monster offspring may gain evolved forms of skills via synthesis inheritance if their parents have allocated the maximum number of SP to certain skills. It is also possible for offspring to acquire improved versions of abilities if both parents possess the same skill and the total number of SP invested by both is at least equal to the maximum value.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Monsters Skill List

Some special skills are gained by the offspring through special combinations of inherited skills.

Monster offspring can also acquire certain special skills if the specific combinations of abilities are inherited from both parents and the maximum SP were allocated to those abilities.

Parent size can also be inherited.

Synthesis Using parent with same size ensures inheritance

If you want the offspring to inherit the same size, make both parents the same size so that 100% of the offspring born will be the same size as their parents.

Synthesizing large and small monsters may create a large monster

There are monsters that are categorized as small but look big in appearance. Despite being categorized as small monsters, these monsters may produce large monsters when paired or synthesized with a true large monster.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince How to Get Large Monsters

Prepare two (2) monsters of level 10 or higher

You can only synthesis monsters that are level 10 or higher, so if your monsters don’t have enough levels, you need to raise them to level 10.

Monster races born from the synthesis have been decided

The basic rules of synthesis are that the combination of races determines which race of monster will be created. Even when the parent monsters are different, if the races used is the same the monsters born are the same.

Synthesis Special Combination (Gold Frame)

Certain combinations of monsters can sometimes produce monsters of unexpected races and special combinations are marked with a gold frame.

Can Synthesis Monsters Same as their Parents

Synthesis allows you to produce a offspring monster that is the same as either of the two parent monsters, so try using synthesis when you want the same monster to inherit the skills of different monsters.

Four Monster Synthesis

Four-Monster Synthesis is a special type of breeding process in the game. As its name suggests, this type of monster synthesis requires four (4) specific monster materials serving as “grandparents.”

The offspring created by each pair of grandparents (regardless of their family type) can then be synthesized to birth the target monster required in the four-monster combination.

Any monster is OK as a parent

The race of the parent monster is not affected. There is no problem in randomly choosing from the monsters that can be synthesised with your grandparents.

Some S and X Rank monsters can only be obtained from four monster synthesis

Some monsters in rank S and X can only be created by doing four monster synthesis.

Search Synthesis Guide

Check the list of monsters that can be created now

Search synthesis is a feature that allows you to check the list of monsters to synthesis from all the monsters you have as allies, unlike the normal synthesis where you select two monsters. There is no need to select each monster and check the combination, so you can use it when you want to quickly check what monsters that you can make now.

How to do Search Synthesis

Specify Synthesis Conditions

When doing Search Synthesis, you can first specify the conditions for the offspring to be born and the conditions for the parent to use as the material, so try specifying the synthesis conditions that you like. It is also recommended that you make the settings “Monsters that never joined the party” to “Yes”, as this will make it easier to fill up your monster library.

Check the list of Synthesis Monsters

If you press “Search” after specifying the synthesis conditions, you can see a list of monsters that can be combined with the monsters you have. Also, the ● in the top right corner of the icons displayed in the list indicates that it’s a monster that never joined your party, so it is useful to remember that.

Select a monster and choose a synthesis combination

Once you select the monster you want to create from the list, the synthesis combinations that can be used to create that monster will aklso be displayed, so choose the parent you like among the multiple combinations and combine them.

Discover New Monsters if you Specify the Conditions

Conditions that make it easier to discover new monsters
Monsters that never joined the party YES
Narrow down to possible combinations NO
Narrow down to races registered in the library NO
Specify one parents for synthesis Monster you want to check

For example, when you scout a new “Maiden Doll”, if you check the results of the search combination using the above conditions, you can check whether a new monster can be created using a combination using Maiden Doll.

The ? result is a hint for discovering new monsters

The “?” part in the search results indicates the number of new monsters that can be created using Maiden Doll + monsters that have not yet been encountered. If there is no “?” in the result, it means that all the combinations for that monster is completed!
