Prioritize increasing damage per shot and damage per second.
In general, you want to prioritize upgrading the Camera Obscura’s damage output by spending blue spirit stones on enhancing Power. You will be severely handicapped in later chapters against ghosts with high health if you do not enhance attack power early on. Afterwards, focus on upgrading damage-per-second by improving Charge and Sensitivity. While it is possible to consistently land combos using Fatal Frame Shots, you may find yourself missing chances to do them so getting both Charge and Sensitivity will be worth it to improve the rate at which you can deal max damage against enemies.
Spend other spirit stones on Spirit Absorption and Range.
Feel free to spend spirit stones on Spirit Absorption and Range once you have sufficiently upgraded the camera functions mentioned above. The value of improving Range, meanwhile, may vary from player to player. Note that it is possible to reliably land attacks on enemies with enough experience on aiming regardless of upgrade levels you unlock for the function.
Recommended Lens Upgrades
Upgrade | Description | Required Red Spirit Stones |
---|---|---|
Blast | Grants a small boost to damage for one shot. | 5 (1st Stage), 10 (2nd Stage), 20 (3rd Stage) |
Priority | ★★★★★ | |
Details | High-priority lens upgrade to slightly increase damage output. | |
Blow | Expends all Spirit power stored in blue orbs to boost the damage for one shot. Damage increase depends on how many Spirits you have stored. | 15 (1st Stage), 25 (2nd Stage), 35 (3rd Stage) |
Priority | ★★★★ | |
Details | High priority lens upgrade. Grants the most damage boost per shot when fully upgraded and using 6 fully-charged blue orbs. Can significantly speed up the time it takes to defeat bosses with high HP. | |
Slow | Temporarily slows enemies. | 10 (1st Stage), 15 (2nd Stage), 30 (3rd Stage) |
Priority | ★★★ | |
Details | Useful against certain flying and highly mobile ghosts, not very good against enemies that teleport frequently |
Upgrade Blast and Blow as soon as often as possible.
The Blast Lens is the first lens you get that increases damage output for each shot so spending spirit stones to upgrade it should be your top priority throughout the game. Afterwards, try to enhance the Hit Lens which is arguably the best offensive lens in the game. Equipping it lets you deal more damage the higher Spirit charges you have accumulated on your blue orbs, making it possible to burst down the massive HP of most bosses faster than with any other method.
Enhance Slow based on your preferences.
The Slow Lenses is useful for dealing with various regular ghost enemies that fly or move around a lot. In general, you simply just want to practice aiming and spend all red spirit stones on lenses that directly increase damage output.
