Differences in Difficulty Modes: Easy, Normal, Hard and Nightmare

At the start of the game, you will need to choose the type of difficulty you prefer, although Hard and Nightmare mode can only be unlocked after beating Normal. Lower difficulties allow you to buy most items from the shop and the ghosts are easier to defeat compared to the higher difficulty levels. On Hard mode, ghosts are more aggressive and gain increased damage output and health. Certain items cannot also be purchased during a Hard mode run.

In Nightmare mode, ghosts will present a similar level of difficulty to Hard mode, and items will be unavailable for purchase throughout the main story. This makes Nightmare difficulty the most challenging out of all selectable difficulty modes as it requires you to make the most out of your available resources.

Different endings are unlocked based on the game difficulty selected.

There are two different endings you can view after clearing the final battle in Chapter 13. When playing on Easy or Normal mode, you will unlock Ending 1. Beating the game on Hard or Nightmare difficulty, meanwhile, lets you view Ending 2. It is highly recommended to play through the game on Hard or Nightmare when you unlock them to get Ending 2 which provides additional story content on the fate of one of the game’s main characters.
