What are Car Classes?

Car Classes in Forza Motorsport 8 (2023) is a system of categorizing vehicles based on their Performance Index (PI). This numerical value can be understood as the overall rating of a car which takes into consideration factors such as speed, handling, acceleration, launch, and braking.

For simplicity, however, you can just think of high PI as how fast a car can clear a simulated PI test track.

The Car Class of a vehicle is displayed on the upper right corner (next to its PI) when looking at the car’s image in the shop or garage.

Understanding Car Classes is important as certain racing events under Builders Cup Career Mode (including Featured Tours) may restrict entry to cars that do not meet the PI standard. This is to allow cars with similar performance ranges to race competitively by barring vehicles with clear disadvantages from joining.

As you play the game and join more class-restricted events, you will eventually be able to tell by memory which cars you can use just by looking at the class code.

Note that Car Class and PI do not necessarily determine the best cars in the game. Things like road conditions, varying configurations of tracks, upgrades that can be done to each car, and the driver’s own skill all greatly influence a car’s performance throughout the game.
