Get familiar with the combat system.

Combat forms a large part of the game, so getting the hang of allows you to progress quickly through the main story where you will be pit against multiple enemies and bosses. Learning dodge and parry windows via the Spider Sense is particularly important during the early stages as you want to aim for being able to take down foes while taking as little damage as possible.

Progress through the main story.

Several new activities become available simply by reaching specific points of the main story. You also gain access to new explorable districts the further you are in the game, giving you access to more challenges and side content to do to earn rewards like new suits, materials, and collectibles.

Increase District Progress to unlock fast traveling.

As you perform various activities like stopping crime or finding collectibles in a district, your District Progress in that area will go up. Doing so unlocks the ability to fast travel to a district in addition to letting you collect useful rewards for achieving new milestones in that neighborhood.

Do collection-related activities to earn Tech Parts and Tokens.

Each explorable area is filled with collection-related activities that reward you with resources like Tech Parts and Tokens. These items are used to craft new suits or upgrade your gadgets and suit tech so it is worth taking the time, especially early on, to focus on side content like finding Marko’s Memories and Photo Ops, and helping out citizens via FNSM App requests.

Unlock skills using skill points.

Be sure to unlock new skills form Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ unique skill trees as well as those common to each Spider-Man. These abilities will prove useful during exploration and combat so you can have an easier time clearing objectives, traversing the open world, or taking down bosses during the main story.

Get familiar with Spider Sense alert colors.

Attacks used by enemies will be indicated by two different colors as your foe winds them up against you. Heavy attacks, indicated by the Spider Sense alert flashing yellow, still cause you to take damage even if you dodge out of the way so parrying them is recommended. Attacks that are marked by a blue flash, meanwhile, cannot be parried so evading them is the best countermeasure.

Watch for the parry timing via Spider Sense.

Pressing the L1 button lets you parry incoming attacks just a they are about to land on you. To perform a successful counter, watch for the red Spider Sense alert effect that appears on your character’s head which indicates the specific window to press the parry button. If done correctly, the enemy will momentarily be stunned, allowing you to follow-up with your own attacks before they can recover.

Integrate gadgets and abilities to your combat style.

Learn to use gadgets and abilities together with basic actions and attacks to gain the advantage in battle. You can use abilities by holding the L1 button + ○, X, □, and △ based on each move’s input in the game. Gadgets, meanwhile, can be activated using the R1 button together with any of the same face buttons mentioned.

Heal using Focus.

Press down on the directional pad to heal yourself using accumulated Focus charges in battle. The Focus bar can be refilled by landing attacks on enemies or successfully performing defensive actions such as dodging or parrying.

Focus charges are also required to performed finishing moves which are essentially powerful attacks that can usually defeat regular enemies in one hit. You will, however, want to save Focus for recovering health during the early stages where you are still likely learning the basics of combat, especially when up against bosses.

Enabling operation hints from the game’s settings causes suggested actions to appear at the bottom of the screen. These are often the best courses of action to take during different combat situations so try to follow them for an easier time taking down enemies.

Fly through wind tunnels using web wings.

Found all throughout the city are wind tunnels that give you a big boost while gliding with web wings. Try to pass through them to get to your next destination faster.

Scan for activities to do while exploring the city.

Pres the R3 button (right analog stick) to scan the surrounding area for nearby activities, collectibles, and points-of-interest that you can investigate.

The scan feature displays useful objectives markers to guide you on the next objective during missions or point to the direction of things you can examine or pick up. Because of this, use the scan button as often as possible while playing.
