Switches to your custom character after the Prologue.
Once you clear the Prologue mission, you will immediately be taken to the character creation (ID Badge) screen to customize your own character before you deploy to your destination planet.

Also becomes playable in the Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale side story (post-game).
Upon clearing the game’s main story, talk to Olimar at the Rescue Command Post to begin the post-game mode Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale. This side story lets you play as Olimar as he attempts to return home by gathering 30 Ship Parts within 15 days (likely a nod to the first Pikmin game).
Pikmin 4 How to Unlock Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale
During Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale, you will be able to travel across the four major regions again (Sun-Speckled Terrace, Blossoming Arcadia, Serene Shores, and Hero’s Hideaway) while collecting Pikmin to help you clear obstacles and battle enemies along the way.
