To unlock the side story Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale in Pikmin 4, you must simply clear the main story missions and watch the game’s ending. This requires you to have completed the Leafy Showdown Dandori Battle against the Red Leafling.

Pikmin 4 Post-Game Unlockables Guide

Once you are in the post-game stages, talk to Olimar at the Rescue Command Post and select “Tell me the tale…” Doing so will allow you to begin side story which focuses on the events taking place before Olimar loses contact with the Rescue Corps.

Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale Side Story Overview

Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale is a side story that lets you play as Olimar, the well-known hero of the first and second Pikmin games as well as Hey! Pikmin. In this game mode, you must gather 30 Ship Parts  to repair the SS Dolphin within 15 days.

Throughout Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale, you will need to travel across the game’s four main areas (regions) again while acquiring Pikmin to solve puzzles, go over obstacles, and battle enemies along the way.
