What Oatchi Can Do

Below are various actions and skills available to Oatchi, the rescue dog, in Pikmin 4 and how they can help you throughout the game’s main story.

Rush

Press and hold X to perform Rush in the direction specified by Oatchi. Rush can destroy walls and clear a path for you. You can also deal damage by doing Rush towards an enemy. Doing the move with a Pikmin riding your back will also trigger Assault, causing the Pikmin to start attacking the target hit by Rush. Note that it is also possible to move while charging Rush.

Rush Skill Description: Press and hold the X button to accumulate the power of the rescue dog and “Rush.” Run, bump, shake, break, and get past obstacles.

Jump

You can jump by pressing the X button while riding Oatchi. You can get over small obstacles with Oatchi’s jump to move forward. In the previous Pikmin series games, jumping was not possible so this ability in Pikmin 4 makes it easier to move around and expands the range of available actions in the game.

Carry Items

Oatchi can carry items too. At the start of the game, Oatchi can lift items with a weight of up to 3. By enhancing Oatchi’s Buff skill through ranger training, Oatchi will be able to carry up to weights of 5 and 10.

Attack Enemies

You can command Oatchi to attack protists (enemies) to deal damage. Just be careful not to take too much damage yourself as Oatchi’s HP will also decrease if he is hit by the enemy.

Digging

Like Pikmin, Oatchi can dig up the ground and various holes. Digging skills, however, cannot be enhanced so your digging speed cannot be increased.

Search for Victims and Detect Treasure with Command Skill

If you use the Command skill with Oatchi, he will navigate you to where a victim in need of rescue is or where treasure is likely to be found. By raising the Command skill level through ranger training, Oatchi will be able to do actions that save you time during exploration activities, such as retrieving strayed Pikmin or automatically returning to your base.
