What is Pikmin 4?

An adventure filled with exploration together with mysterious creatures called Pikmin.

The Pikmin series of real-time strategy and puzzle games follows the adventure of player across undiscovered planets and their interactions with mysterious plant-like creatures called Pikmin.

With the help of Pikmin that inhabit the environment, the player must find their way home.

Pikmin are fragile creatures. In large numbers, however, these curious lifeforms are capable of banding together to defeat enemies much larger than they are.

Oatchi, a new companion, debuts in series’ fourth installment.

In Pikmin 4, a new dog-like companion called Oatchi will accompany the player throughout their journey.

Oatchi, for one, is about as strong as three Pikmin and can help players carry heavy objects. Players can also rely on Oatchi to attack enemies throughout the game.

Oatchi can learn various skills.

Oatchi can acquire new abilities once his Motivation gauge is full. This new mechanic in Pikmin 4 gives players a variety of new actions not found in the previous game. Oatchi’s skills will also come in handy as players freely explore planets and solving puzzles which further distinguishes the fourth title in the series from earlier titles.

Craft items using “raw materials.”

Pikmin 4 also introduces crafting equipment using new types of collectibles called “raw materials.” These items appear as blue-colored crystals that can be found while exploring the planet.

In Pikmin 4, players are able to make two types of equipment using raw materials which are gear and items.

Crafting equipment has a variety of benefits such as making you more resistant to certain attacks or increasing the player or Oatchi’s maximum health. All of these are aimed toward making exploration and battles easier.

Because of the advantages of using gear and items, players are encouraged to actively collect raw materials to craft as many tools as they can on their journey.

Character customization enabled.

In Pikmin 4, players can choose their character’s name, skin color, face type, hairstyle and hair color, and outfit color for a more personal touch.

Since the appearance of the customizable character can be made to look similar to protagonists and side characters that have appeared in past Pikmin games, it is also possible to pay homage to them through your hero’s look.

Food mechanic has been removed.

In past Pikmin titles, players needed to consume food at the end of the day’s activities to keep them alive. If players ran out of food, the game would be over. This system made earlier Pikmin titles somewhat more difficult.

In Pikmin 4, however, this mechanic has been removed food. This then prevents players from experiencing food shortages and getting a “Game Over” at the end of each section of activities in the game and allow for unlimited exploration purely for fun.
