Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince - How to Raise Stat Caps

A guide on how to raise stat caps for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQ Monsters: The Dark Prince), including shiny monsters and large monster stats, monster family stat bonuses, how to get high stats, and other useful tips.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince - How to Raise Stat Caps

How to Raise Stat Caps for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (DQ Monsters: The Dark Prince)

Synthesize shiny monsters.

A shiny monster created via synthesis will have one of its stat’s maximum value increased by about 100. The parameter that gains the stat cap increase is random so it is recommended to reroll the synthesis process until you get a Shiny Monster with a stat cap increase that you want.

Steps on How to Reroll Shiny Monsters via Synthesis

Before proceeding with the steps below, be sure to turn off autosave. Then, save your game manually before attempting to synthesis two monster parents.

1 Decide on the monster you want to get as a shiny. Then, synthesize the normal version of that monster.
2 Level up the monster to around level 10. During the process, take note of the monster’s stats (non-shiny) by listing them down.
3 Load your save before synthesis and breed the target monster until you get its Shiny version.
4 Once you get the shiny monster, level it up to around level 10 as with the regular version. Afterwards, compare the stats of the normal version to the shiny.
5 Repeat the process until you get a shiny with an increased stat that you want.

Synthesize large monsters.

Large monsters will generally (but not always) have higher stats compared to their small-sized counterparts so you can try synthesizing them to gain increased max values for stats you are aiming for.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince How to Get Large Monsters

Bear in mind that large monsters do tend to have higher Defense but lower Agility compared to their regular variants which can prove disadvantageous in certain situations. As a general rule (taking into account the monster’s size), the higher the monster’s defense, the lower its Agility and vice-versa.

The stat value difference between small and large monsters is summarized in the table below.

Stat Small Monsters Large Monsters
HP 1x 1.5x
MP 1x 1.5x
Attack 1x 1.1x
Defense 1x 1.1x (Affected by Size)
Agility 1x 1.1x (Affected by Size)
Wisdom 1x 1.1x
Damage Dealt 1x 1.55x

Take advantage of monster family bonuses.

Monster family bonuses based on the offspring’s parents and grandparents will also have an effect on maximum stat values.

Stat bonuses gained by a monster depends on its lineage, with parameters gaining a +1 increase for grandparents and +2 for parents. For best results, try to have all parents and grandparents involved in the synthesis to be at level 100.

A monster, meanwhile, will gain a +2 on all stats if all grandparents are from different monster families which is recommended if you are aiming for the highest increase in the most number of stats.

How to Get High Stats

Learn skills that increase stats.

Monsters gain increased stats by spending SP on skills that permanently raise specific attributes. Unlocking these skills can further improve a monster’s strengths in battle so do not overlook them when deciding on how to spend SP in the game.

Synthesize monsters with high stats.

Monster offspring inherit a quarter of the combined stats of their parents. This means that monsters created via synthesis will have high initial attributes if their parents also have high stats.

Use Seeds and Equip Accessories

Although using seeds will not exceed the stat cap, it is useful when the level is maxed out and status cannot be raised any further. Accessories can also easily raise your status, so if you want to raise them quickly, equip them.
