Move | Left analog stick | Have Noctis move to any direction |
Sprint | L3 button | Have Noctis run faster. You can only sprint for a certain period of time. |
Rotate camera angle | Right analog stick | Have Noctis look around by rotating the camera angle. |
Jump | × button | Have Noctis perform a jump |
Talk/Examine/Interact | ○ button | Have Noctis talk to people, and examine or interact with objects |
Lock-on | R1 button | Have Noctis’ direction focused on quest markers or those which his party has marked |
Take cover | L1 button | Have Noctis hide in corners. His HP and MP will regenerate more rapidly in this state. |
Menu | Start button | Opens the menu. Noctis can check his inventory and equipment in this menu. Noctis’ current location on the map and the next quest destination is also displayed here. |

Action | Input Command | Description |

Attack | ○ button | Have Noctis attack with an equipped weapon. |
Assault | Press and hold ○ button | Have Noctis perform attacks rapidly with the equipped weapon. |
Warp | △ button | Have Noctis warp to a location indicated by a cursor on the battlefield. Consumes MP when used. |
Dodge | □ button | Have Noctis evade enemy attacks. Holding down the □ button will allow Noctis to automatically evade close-range attacks which consume MP. But if timed correctly, Noctis can perform a “Just Evade”, which consumes less MP. Ranged attacks cannot be avoided with this command. |
Parry | L1 + □ button | After Noctis successfully guards against an attack, the enemy will go red, indicating the chance to perform a parry. When timed correctly, Noctis can follow the parry with a counterattack. |
Weapon Ability | D-pad + △ button | Allows Noctis to use the special ability of an equipped weapon. You can choose which weapon ability you want to use with the D-pad. Each ability’s MP cost varies depending on the type of weapon used. |
Lock-on | Press and hold L1 button | Have Noctis focus his direction on an enemy. You can switch targets by moving the left analog stick. |
Armiger Arsenal | L1 + R1 | Have Noctis perform his Armiger Arsenal ability. Noctis will summon “phantom swords” that greatly enhance his offensive capabilities in battle. This continuously drains MP. Noctis’ Armiger Arsenal will become stronger as the story progresses. |
Rescue Ally | ○ button near an ally | Have Noctis assist any ally that is close to death. |
Combat Menu | Touch-pad | Opens the combat menu. You can change Noctis’ equipment or use items here. |
How to pick a potion when in combat.
Press RT in PS4, but can’t pick potion. What buttons to pick and in what order?
