Strategy
One of the notable cavalry swords users in the game that is exclusive only from the Grand Hero Battles. As a cavalry unit, he can easily transport himself to most tiles that require his durability to shield certain units especially those that have measly DEF stats.
Sharing Hector’s ability to counter enemies from afar with his built in weapon, in conjunction with a stellar DEF stat, he can usually take more hits than normal and is effective against most units apart from blue ones and Tome users.
Despite his advantages, with mediocre SPD he is vulnerable to being doubled by ranged units especially if he lacks Siegfried. Moreover, with his sub-par RES, he falls prey to most Tome users.
He performs excellently when paired with a cavalry team. He appreciates support from other Tome users that can keep Blue Tomes at bay. Cecilia can fulfill this function as one of the unique Tome using cavalry units. She synergizes well with Xander’s typing, enabling her to deal Ranged damage while leaving the close quarters to Xander. She can also return to the back line to wait for Xander to close the distance against other melee fighters. He shares a similar role to Camus however they can cover each other reliably due to their typing. With the default kit, Camus can spread buffs to Xander, further raising his offense and speed to take out otherwise alarming threats.
Factoring in Skill inheritance, he could either spread cavalry buffs across adjacent allies with Hone Cavalry, or have other cavalry units do the support each turn.
Counter
- Linde – A powerful blue tome user who can easily pierce Xander’s pathetic RES stat.
- Effie – Despite rivaling Xander’s tanking ability, Effie not only has the type advantage but also the DEF to sponge his attacks and retaliate with a powerful lancer damage in return.
- Lilina – As a tome wielder similar to Linde, Lilina is recommended to equip Swordbreaker to enable her to easily snipe Xander from afar with relative ease.
