Stats

Eliwood is a tanky Red/Sword Cavalry unit that can create a bottleneck in tight maps. While his stats do not really reflect his Defensive power, he does have high Speed and Res that can absorb incoming magic attacks.

Strategy

Eliwood is a tank cavalry. It’s not his stats but his skills that make him a tank. With Holy Vestments and Sacred Cowl, he’s able to reduce the damage of any character that attacks from 2 Spaces away. This makes him relatively useful against dagger users, bow users, tome users, and even staff users. With his already high Res, he can soak up damage from some blue tomes like Robin (M).

However, Eliwood is still quite susceptible to physical attackers. His being a cavalry unit makes him susceptible to Blue/Lance users like Mathilda who has Ridersbane. To further Eliwood’s skills, you can try adding some defensive buffs or have some players with defensive passives surround him. A Healer such as Azama and Clarine can support him. For more versatility in movement, Azama is preferred since he can cross through forests and has Solid Earth Balm.

For assists, Drawback can work if he needs to save a few allies. However, a more personal preference would be to have Swap as he can then serve as a tank. This works best however if he has a pocket healer on hand. Reposition can work as well as it throws the ally behind him. To grant him more combat capability, Deathblow is a plausible passive trait. However, my personal preference would involve Close Defense but it’s quite hard to get especially since one has to sacrifice Adult Tiki (Ylissean Summer) to get it. Distant Defense or Defiant Def can definitely work as a replacement if the player wants to give Eliwood more tanking capability.

Counter

  • Delthea – Delthea has a strong ATK power that makes his Res look bad. The fact that she’s a blue/tome also makes her incredibly potent against Eliwood.
  • Robin (M) – Tanky in both Def and Res, Robin (M) can soak up incoming damage from Eliwood before throwing it back at him. He can instantly one-shot Eliwood without needing to learn Retribution.
  • Gray – Gray’s Zanbato deals extra damage against Eliwood’s being a Cavalry.
  • Mathilda – Mathilda has Ridersbane and is a Blue/Lance/Cavalry. He’s pretty much dead meat.
