Red Lantern Corps Faction

The Red Lantern Corps was formed by Atrocitus of the Five Inversions, one of the five survivors of the Massacre of Sector 666.

History

The Red Lantern Corps was formed by Atrocitus of the Five Inversions, one of the five survivors of the Massacre of Sector 666. Using the blood magics of the Five Inversions, Atrocitus harnessed the red spectrum of light, allowing him to empower the rage within him. The Red Lantern Ring was born out of anger and crystallized the blood of the Inversions.

Atrocitus’ first discovery of the red spectrum came during the years of incarceration he endured on the prison planet of Ysmault. He blames the Guardians of the Universe for the massacre of his sector, and because of this Atrocitus built up years of hatred and rage. When he gave in fully to his rage, it was given shape for the first time when he bludgeoned Qull to death, one of his fellow survivors, with a Red Lantern Power Battery.

After that, Atrocitus apparently killed the other Inversions, using their blood as part of his plans. He then poured forth the great bloody rage drawn from his body by the power of the red spectrum. Using blood magics he forged a Red Lantern Central Power Battery of his own which stands before a great lake of blood, and from that Lantern emerged batteries and rings to power the Red Lantern Corps. In the shadow of the great Red Lantern, immersed in his victims blood, Atrocitus vowed revenge against the Guardians of the Universe and Sinestro, the “Greatest of the Green Lanterns” and the one who incarcerated him.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

One member of the Red Lantern Corps, Atrocitus appears in the background of the Metropolis (Rooftop) Stage, fighting Kilowog in the sky.

In one of the S.T.A.R. Labs missions, Atrocitus aids Sinestro into taking over Earth and can be used for an attack when needed.

 Trivia

• As they have no use for their hearts, the Red Lanterns are unaffected by the heart-ripping attack of a Black Lantern.
• Few Red Lanterns make use of their rings ability to make constructs rather preferring to attack them with their bare hands or burn them, Atrocitus himself, despite possessing the clarity to think while using his ring, never makes constructs. Hal Jordan in the short time he wore one, was the first Red Lantern to use constructs, as he possessed the strength of will to create them. Guy Gardner was the second to create constructs when he wore both a green and red ring(notably destroying more Black Lanterns then the entire Green Lantern Corps combined).
• In Green Lantern: The Animated Series, the Red Lanterns have been noticeably “toned down” to be more suitable for its younger viewers. The Red Lanterns are not raving mad and mindless, their power manifests as powerful flames rather than blood-looking plasma and their Oath is:
  “With blood and rage of crimson red,
  We fill men’s souls with darkest dread,
  And twist your minds to pain and hate,
  We’ll burn you all–that is your fate!”
