Game Overview

League of Legends: Wild Rift (LoL: Wild Rift) is a free-to-play mobile Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) developed and published by Riot Games. The game is a modified version of its PC counterpart game, League of Legends, and it features intense player-versus-player gameplay.

History

League of Legends: Wild Rift - History

Tencent, the parent owner of Riot Games, reached out to the developer to create a mobile version of League of Legends. However, Riot Games initially declined and believed that the gameplay of League of Legends will not translate well to smartphones. Tencent moved on and released their own MOBA title called Honor of Kings in China. Internationally, the game was released as Arena of Valor (AoV) sharing most of the mechanics and hero skills from Honor of Kings but with a different lore and hero names. Not until the Riot Games’ 10th Anniversary event last October 15, 2009 that Riot Games officially unveiled their very own mobile MOBA title called League of Legends: Wild Rift.

Gameplay

League of Legends: Wild Rift - Gameplay

LoL: Wild Rift adopts the familiar team-based format similar to Arena of Valor and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang where players can choose to do battle in 5v5 matches. However, the Wild Rift differs in some areas such as buying items, experienced gain (last hit mechanic), and targeting enemies. Each battle takes place on a three-lane map where opposing teams engages in battle, push ally creeps or minions, and take advantage of the terrain to break through their opponent’s base “Nexus” and win the match.

Champions

League of Legends: Wild Rift - Champions

The mobile MOBA game currently have an initial roster of 40 or more unique characters called “Champions”. Champions are divided into six classes: Assassins, Fighters, Mages, Marksmen, Supports, and Tanks. Being familiar with each of the champion’s strengths and weaknesses is important in performing your role within the team and achieving victory.

Release

League of Legends: Wild Rift is still under its regional open beta phase and hasn’t seen a worldwide release yet. However, the mobile MOBA title is already the number #1 iOS App in regional open beta countries. The game’s open beta access includes Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. Riot Games is set to release to open the game in Oceania, Taiwan, and Vietnam on December 7, 2020 and in Commonwealth of Independent States, Europe, Middle East, and Turkey on December 10, 2020. The release in the Americas is scheduled on Spring 2021.
