Leveling Guide for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (Pokemon SV), leveling up your Pokemon is crucial as you will encounter stronger wild Pokemon and those used by Pokemon Trainers as you progress through the game’s main story. Whenever your Pokemon levels up, their stats will increase and may learn new moves to use in battle. Some Pokemon will also evolve once they reach a specific level.
Because of these advantages, it is important to take the time to level up your Pokemon before proceeding to take on tougher challenges in the game.
Ways to Level Up
Earn experience (EXP) through battles.
The most straightforward way to level up is to battle and defeat other Pokemon. The amount of experience earned for winning varies, though you will gain more experience (EXP) required to level up by taking on Pokemon that are around the same level as your Pokemon.
Use special consumable items that instantly increase your Pokemon’s level.
Another way to gain levels is to use Rare Candies that raise your Pokemon’s level. This item can be obtained as a reward from 5★ and 6★ Tera Raid Battles.
Exp. Candies, another consumable item, grants a Pokemon a hefty amount of EXP when used. While not as effective as Rare Candies for leveling up, they still allow you to gain levels faster than by constantly battling other Pokemon in the game. You can also get Exp. Candies from Tera Raid Battles with rarer variants being obtainable on higher star levels.
Tips for Leveling
Make sandwiches during picnics to increase EXP gained.
Eating sandwiches during picnics grants your Pokemon a temporary boost in EXP gained in battle. This is useful for grinding levels against wild Pokemon or to take advantage of the massive EXP rewarded for defeating Gym Leaders.
Pokemon with high Friendship points will gain more EXP than normal. Because of this, try to raise Friendship with your Pokemon by keeping it in your party at all times, using items, or engaging in certain activities that increase your bond with it.
