How to Join Tera Raid Battles

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Tera Raid Battle Crystal

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Tera Raid Battles

Approach a shining crystal and touch it to open the Tera Raid Battle menu. Then, choose a Pokémon from your team or from your storage box to bring in the raid.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Tera Raid Battle Password

You can also set a password for your session if you want to limit members to only friends you know. Note that an internet connection and Nintendo Online subscription is required to join Tera Raid Battles with other players online.

It is also possible to do Tera Raid Battles solo (offline), though clearing it is much easier with a party of four players.

Tera Raid Battle Key Mechanics

Time Limit

Each Tera Raid Battle must be cleared within the time limit indicated on the upper section of the screen. Since wild Terastal Pokémon have very high HP, it is recommended to attempt raids with a team of other players. The raid will result in failure if the Terastal Pokémon is not defeated before time runs out.

Auto-Revive

When your Pokémon is knocked out during the raid, it will be automatically revived after a short period of time. The cooldown for reviving Pokémon increases based on the number of times a Pokémon faints during battle. Because of this, try to avoid getting knocked out as much as possible so you can spend the duration of the raid chipping away at the wild Terastal Pokémon’s HP.

Terastallizing

All members of the raid team can Terastallize their Pokémon at any time during the battle. Try to bring Pokémon that can Terastallize to a Pokémon type that has the advantage over the enemy Terastal Pokémon for better chances of defeating it.

Supporting Allies (Cheer)

You can use your turn to cheer for your allies instead of commanding your Pokémon to use certain moves. Each type of cheer grants different effects which are listed  below.

Cheer Effect
Go all out! Increases allies’ Attack and Special Attack.
Hang tough! Increases allies’ Defense and Special Defense.
Heal up! Heals allies’ Pokémon.

Each member of the raid team can only use a cheer command up to three times so use them wisely throughout the duration of the battle.

Tips for Clearing Tera Raid Battles

Prioritize attack power above anything else.

The best Pokémon to bring for Tera Raid Battles are those with very high attack and special attack power. Since your objective is to take down the wild Terastal Pokémon within the time limit, you will need Pokémon that can quickly burst down the enemy’s HP.

The flagship Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon are among the best Pokémon to use for Tera Raid Battles, owing to their impressive stats across the board and unique Abilities to raise their damage output further. Take note of the wild Terastal Pokémon’s Tera Type.

Before starting the raid, check the wild Terastal Pokémon’s Tera Type from the raid menu. It is recommended to use Pokémon that can exploit the enemy’s weakness with and without Terastallizing. Without taking advantage of type compatibility, you will have a much harder time taking down wild Terastal Pokémon, especially on higher-level raids.

Use Pokémon with Abilities that increase their attack and special attack power when hit.

It is also recommended to bring Pokémon with Abilities that increase their damage output when they take damage or are inflicted with certain debuffs. Examples of this are Bellibolt who has Electromorphosis (deal more damage with Electric moves whenever it gets hit) and Bisharp who has Defiant (deals more damage when its stats are lowered).

Work with other players online, particularly for post-game Tera Raid Battles (5★ and above).

While Tera Raid Battles with star levels of 4★ and below can be cleared with little to no trouble solo (offline), you will need to work with other players for any 5★, 6★, or 7★ raid. Wild Terastal Pokémon encountered in these raids will be at level 75 and have massive amounts of HP, making them extremely difficult to defeat within the time limit. Try to assemble a competent team of friends when running high-level Tera Raid Battles as much as possible.

Tera Raid Battle Rewards

Apart from being able to catch the defeated wild Terastal Pokémon, you will also receive useful items for clearing raids. The loot you get for winning varies for each Tera Raid star level, with rarer items like Ability Patches, Bottle Caps, Mints, EV-lowering Berries, and Rare Candies only obtainable on higher-difficulty raids (5★ and 6★).
