Beginner’s Guide: Things to Do First in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Choose your preferred starting vocation (Arisen).
When choosing your starting vocation, it is recommended to pick the one that with the playstyle you like the most.
Each basic vocation is unique enough to offer a drastically different experience from the others that the best choice is one that you prefer to role-play for your first playthrough. And since you are able to unlock all other basic vocations (along with advanced and hybrid classes) later on, just choose one that you want to play as at the start of the game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Which Starting Vocation Should You Choose?
Fighter and Mage are recommended for new players.
The Fighter and Mage vocations are the best ones to basic classes to go for if you are new to the Dragon’s Dogma games. The Fighter vocation is a straightforward melee class with balanced offense and defense, making it a good starting point for beginners who prefer close-combat over a ranged playstyle.
The Mage vocation is also a strong pick for beginners who prefer a spellcaster as their main character (Arisen). Magic is very strong, especially during the early stages, so playing as this vocation will allow you to breeze through certain encounters, especially with the right Pawn allies at your side.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 All Vocations (Classes) List and Guide
Decide your Main Pawn’s vocation around your Arisen’s vocation.
Once you have chosen your Arisen character’s starting vocation, try to have your Main Pawn adopt a class that works well with it. A Fighter Arisen, for instance, will benefit from having a Main Pawn who specializes in ranged combat as Fighters have virtually no means to effectively damage foes from afar.
Those choosing the Mage vocation, meanwhile, should be paired with a Main Pawn who can distract enemies while they cast spells from the backline.
Clear quests to unlock more vocations.
Advanced and hybrid vocations are unlocked by clearing specific main quests and side quests in the game. Classes that become accessible after completing optional quests are essentially missable as you may not gain access to them if you only focus on progressing through the main story.
Once a new vocation at the Vocation Guild, you must unlock it by spending the required amount of Dep which you can earn by defeating enemies in the game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 How to Unlock All Vocations (Classes)
Let Pawns carry your items if your weight reaches medium or higher.
Mobility is extremely important in the game, especially during battle. Because of this, avoid being encumbered at all times by having your Pawns carry any excess items you have in your inventory. Your stamina also depletes slower the lighter your load is.
Ideally, you want to stay below a medium weight capacity to be able to move around more easily when taking on enemies.
Store items at the warehouse.
To help manage your inventory more easily, be sure to store the items you own at the warehouse. There is no limit to the number of items you can store at the warehouse which can be accessed at inns or homes you purchase in major cities.
Ride ox carts to fast travel.
You can fast travel in the game using Ferrystones, though this is generally an expensive way to go around the map. A Ferrystone goes for 10,000G each at shops which is quite a hefty sum.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 How to Fast Travel
Because of this, it is recommended to ride ox carts which only require you to pay a fee of 100G if you wish to travel from town to town in the game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 How to Ride Ox Carts
Use the “Come” command to have Pawns focus on the destination.
Press ↓ on the directional pad will command all Pawns to focus on reaching your desired destination while ignoring enemies or loot that can be picked up along the way. This is useful for when you want to avoid getting sidetracked on your current quest’s objectives in the game.
Bring a Camping Kit when exploring.
Bringing a Camping Kit lets your party fully recover HP and damage sustained through the loss gauge. You are also able to cook meals while at camp to gain buffs that are useful in battle.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 How to Get Camping Kits
There is no limit to the number of times you can use Camping Kits. Because of this, do not forget to bring one if you plan on exploring areas for extended periods. Just remember that Camping Kits can be destroyed during enemy ambushes or if you die during such attacks.
Since Camping Kits are quite heavy, try to have your Pawns carry it so it does not hinder your mobility in battle.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Things to Do at Camp
Prioritize upgrading equipment than buying new ones.
Money is quite scarce during the early stages of the game so you will want to save as much of it as you progress to the later sections. One way to do this is to prioritize upgrading equipment instead of buying new ones from shops.
The first stages of upgrading most early-game gear can be done at a low cost without the need for any materials. This is much more cost-effective than spending your gold on equipment sold at shops.
To upgrade equipment, visit any of the weapon shops found in the game’s large settlements. In general, you only want to start directly purchasing gear from merchants when you reach the game’s second region (Bakbattahl).
