Below are the effects of the race and body type Dragon’s Dogma 2 which apply to the Arisen (player character), and Pawns (AI-controlled allies) you create at the start of the main story or hire from The Rift.

Race Effects

Interacting with Different NPCs

Some non-player characters (NPCs) you meet on your journey may treat you differently if your character (Arisen) or Pawn allies are of a certain race.

Availability of Quests

Some quests may only be initiated if the Arisen or accompanying Pawns belong to either Human or Beastren. This is because some NPCs may or may not welcome help from one race or another.

Story Events

Some story events may also be affected based on race which may, in turn, determine the encounters you must fight through, items and rewards you obtain, and NPCs you can ally yourself with.

Does not affect your starting area during the main story.

The Arisen character’s race does not affect the area you start in for the main story. All players will begin their journey in the Kingdom of Vermund, travel to the Sacred Harbor, and eventually make it to the nation of Battahl as per the game’s main quest.

Body Type Effects

Gender

While not explicitly stated in the game, the first 4 base body types you choose at the character creation screen are essentially the male and female genders of the Human and Beastren race.

Several gameplay elements such as movement, weapon range, and available equipment are affected by a character’s gender which are discussed in more detail in the guide below.

Stats and Parameters

Various stats and parameters are affected by a character’s body type. How big your character is, for instance, will determine the amount of weight a character can carry and how fast their stamina recovers when it is depleted.

Weapon Range

Certain body builds also have their advantages and disadvantage in terms of wielding certain weapons. An example of this is being able to reach further with melee armaments if your character has longer limbs.

Does not affect the ability to enter any area in the game.

Regardless of a character’s body type, you will be able to enter any area in the game. All locations become accessible no matter how big or small the Arisen or their Pawn allies are.

Tips on Character Race and Body Types

Recruit Pawns that are not of the same race as the Arisen.

Having Pawns that are not of the same Race as the Arisen will allow you to interact with more NPCs or be able to do various quests with favorable outcomes than simply having an all-Human or all-Beastren party.

Recruit Pawns that are built differently from the Arisen.

Every body type in the game has its own strengths and weaknesses that will prove useful as you go through different encounters and events on your adventure. Try experimenting with party compositions consisting of Pawns with varying body builds that are not the same as those of the Arisen for some surprising results.
