Dragon’s Dogma 2 Which Starting Vocation Should You Choose?
Recommended Archer Vocation Progression
Order | Vocation | Recommended Rank | Details |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Archer | 4 | Unlocks Endurance (Augment Skill). |
2 | Thief | 2 | Unlocks Subtlety (Augment Skill). |
3 | 9 (MAX) | Unlocks Verve (Augment Skill). | |
4 | Mage | 9 (MAX) | Unlocks Exaltation (Augment Skill). |
5 | Magick Archer | 8 | Unlocks Ascendancy (Augment Skill). |
6 | Archer | 8 | Unlocks Lethality (Augment Skill). |
Get the Augment skill Endurance as soon as possible when building an Archer to gain increased stamina in battle. Then, change to the Thief vocation to unlock Subtlety which lowers the chance of being targeted by enemies. Since you are mostly contributing to damage and support from the backline, you will want to attract as little attention from the enemy as possible.
Before changing to another job, get Verve from the Thief vocation to boost the Archer’s generally low damage output in the early stages. The last Augment skill you should grab is Lethality from the Archer vocation itself as you will have gained experience in aiming for enemy weak points to hit them reliably.

---|---|---|
Manifold Shot | An advanced form of Barrage Shot that fires a greater number of arrows. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 4 for 1,000 Dcp. | |
Deathly Arrow | An advanced form of Dire Arrow that inflicts greater harm and has the ability to pin smaller targets to walls. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 5 for 1,300 Dcp. | |

|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 7 for 2,000 Dcp. | |
Tempest Shot | An advanced form of Torrent Shot that fires a greater number of arrows. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 7 for 2,000 Dcp. |
The Archer’s main skill to initiate battle in their favor is Lyncean Shot. This move is mainly used to snipe targets from great distances until they get close enough for the Archer’s other bow attacks.
At closer engagements, Manifold Shot, Tempest Shot, and Deathly Arrow are your main damage skills. The last is also particularly effective in boss battles as it allows you to deal massive damage by hitting weak points, especially when the enemy is focused on an ally fighting them up close.

Recommended Core Skills
Weapon Skill | Effects | Details |
---|---|---|
Swift Nock | Enables the user to nock arrows more quickly when using Loose or Steady Shot. | The best Archer core skill for improved DPS. |
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 3 for 400 Dcp. | |
Puncture Dart | Draws the bowstring to its absolute limit before firing. Makes aiming more difficult, but allows arrows to pierce targets with greater impact. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 4 for 1,000 Dcp. | |
Parting Shot | Fires an arrow while jumping back after performing a Leaping Punt or a mid-air Front Kick. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 4 for 1,000 Dcp. |
Most of the Archer’s core skills have decent utility in battle, though you only really need Swift Nock as it is generally best one to get for the vocation. Gaining increased DPS allows you to deplete the enemy’s HP faster.
Puncture Dart, meanwhile, has its benefits, though its reliability will vary based on how well you can aim while using the skill. Lastly, you can get Parting Shot to gain an extra mobility and attack skill, especially for situations when the enemy gets dangerously close to you.
Recommended Augment Skills
Augment Skill | Effects | How to Unlock |
---|---|---|
Endurance | Increases your maximum Stamina. | Unlock at Archer Rank 4 for 900 Dcp. |
Subtlety | Decreases the likelihood of being targeted by foes. | Unlock at Thief Rank 2 for 300 Dcp. |
Verve | Increases physical attack power | Unlock at Thief Rank 9 (MAX) for 5,000 Dcp. |
Exaltation | Augments your Stamina recovery speed. | Unlock at Mage Rank 9 (MAX) for 5,000 Dcp. |
Ascendancy | Augments the Strength and Magick of pawns in your party. | Unlock at Magick Archer Rank 8 for 3,000 Dcp. |
Lethality | Increases damage dealt when striking a target’s vitals. | Unlock at Archer Rank 8 for 3,000 Dcp. |
Archers mostly stay at the backline while firing away at enemies from a safe distance. During the early stages, you will want to increase your stamina, stamina recovery, and unlikelihood of attracting the enemy’s attention so you can safely aid the party as one if its range specialists.
The Archer’s initial damage output per shot will be lacking during at the start of the game so upgrading your physical attack power should be your next focus. Towards, the late stages, you will also want to be able to max out damage when aiming for the enemy’s weak points which become more important as you take on more challenging foes in the game.
