Best Core Skills for Each Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Recommended Fighter Core Skills
Core Skill | Effects | Details |
---|---|---|
True Deflect | Deflects attacks back toward the target with impressive might. While active, counterattacking consumes no Stamina. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Fighter Vocation Rank 1 for 150 Dcp. | |
Tusk Toss | Traces a grand skyward arc with the blade, sending lightweight targets flying into the air. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Fighter Vocation Rank 2 for 250 Dcp. | |
Steeled Foundation |
Uses the shield to ease the impact from falling. Reduces fall damage and hastens recovery after a fall. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Fighter Vocation Rank 3 for 400 Dcp. |
Out of all of the Fighter’s core skills, True Deflect is arguably the only one of any real value for the vocation as it greatly enhances your defensive capabilities using timed shield blocks. If you have any more Dcp to spare, consider getting Tusk Toss and Steeled Foundation as they can be useful in certain situations.

Recommended Archer Core Skills
Weapon Skill | Effects | Details |
---|---|---|
Swift Nock | Enables the user to nock arrows more quickly when using Loose or Steady Shot. | The best Archer core skill for improved DPS. |
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 3 for 400 Dcp. | |
Puncture Dart | Draws the bowstring to its absolute limit before firing. Makes aiming more difficult, but allows arrows to pierce targets with greater impact. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 4 for 1,000 Dcp. | |
Parting Shot | Fires an arrow while jumping back after performing a Leaping Punt or a mid-air Front Kick. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Archer Vocation Rank 4 for 1,000 Dcp. |
Most of the Archer’s core skills have decent utility in battle, though you only really need Swift Nock as it is generally best one to get for the vocation. Gaining increased DPS allows you to deplete the enemy’s HP faster.
Puncture Dart, meanwhile, has its benefits, though its reliability will vary based on how well you can aim while using the skill. Lastly, you can get Parting Shot to gain an extra mobility and attack skill, especially for situations when the enemy gets dangerously close to you.

Quickspell | Greatly hastens incantation speed. Consumes Stamina while active. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Mage Vocation Rank 2 for 250 Dcp. | |

Levitate |

|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Mage Vocation Rank 3 for 400 Dcp. |
Quickspell is undoubtedly the most useful core skill for Mages as the shortened cast time can spell victory or defeat in many battles. Anodyne is also good core skill to get for allowing you to save up on healing items thanks to the ability’s passive HP recovery effect. For exploration, unlocking Levitate will allow Mages to reach high places which may contain treasure chest and other loot so consider investing some Dcp to get it.

Bump and Lift | Robs the target of an item when an attack connects. Activates when using Carve, but has a low success rate. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Thief Vocation Rank 3 for 400 Dcp. |
Bump and Lift is undoubtedly the best core skill for the Thief vocation as it is basically the Pilfer and Plunder weapon skills in passive form. Being able to steal items from enemies using attacks is one of the best ways to farm rare loot you can sell as well as valuable Wyrmslife Crystals in the game.
Scarlet Kisses, meanwhile, gives you a stamina-less offensive option that you can readily use any time in battle.
Finally, Controlled Fall is a nice damage mitigation ability to have, though your goal is to generally avoid getting hit by enemies.

|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Warrior Vocation Rank 2 for 250 Dcp. |
The Warrior has excellent core skills that all contribute to improving the effectiveness of charged attacks, especially when taking on bosses. Bulwark, for instance, grants you damage mitigation when in the vulnerable state of charging an attack. Repulse, meanwhile, lowers the chances of being interrupted mid-charge which will happen more frequently against swift enemies in the game.
Finally, Breakneck Strike allows the Warrior to get a charged attack off faster which is one of the best upgrades to land charged attacks more frequently.

Bursting Bolt’s utility may vary based on how you use it, though it is generally better to only unlock it once you have all other skills and augments learned in the game.
