Dragon’s Dogma 2 Which Starting Vocation Should You Choose?
Recommended Fighter Vocation Progression
Order | Vocation | Recommended Rank | Details |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Fighter | 2 | Unlocks Mettle (Augment Skill). |
2 | Archer | 4 | Unlocks Endurance (Augment Skill). |
3 | Thief | 9 (MAX) | Unlocks Verve (Augment Skill). |
4 | Mage | 9 (MAX) | Unlocks Exaltation (Augment Skill). |
5 | Fighter | 6 | Unlocks Thew (Augment Skill). |
6 | Magick Archer | 8 | Unlocks Ascendancy (Augment Skill). |
A big part of the Fighter vocation’s role in the party is being able to stand in front of enemies while guarding or parrying with a shield. This action consumes stamina so getting Augments like Endurance and Exaltation that upgrade your stamina pool and efficiency is highly recommended.
Ascendancy from the Magick Archer is another essential Augment for The Fighter class. Since your primary job is to tank hits and draw the attention of enemies, you will mostly be relying on Pawns that excel in ranged attacks using bows or magic for outputting large damage numbers. Because of this, you should grab the Ascendancy to boost your allies’ overall DPS in battle.

An advanced form of Counter Slash that consumes less Stamina while defending and affords greater range when counterattacking. |
|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Fighter Vocation Rank 8 for 2,500 Dcp. |
The weapon skills listed above are all aimed at giving the Fighter the tools to immediately put himself in the middle of the fray to help thin out the enemy’s numbers using their unique strengths. Being able to do so will allow other Pawn allies to establish their offense from the backlines.
Burst Strike allows you to immediately get into the enemy’s face using a quick initiating strike to come to the aid of allies being attacked by enemies or to be able to constantly pursue those that run away from you. Shield Pummel, meanwhile, grants you an option of unleashing a powerful shield charge move that can break the enemy’s stance.
Cloudward Slash is your go-to aerial attack as the Fighter vocation lacks any reliable means to hit flying enemies in the game. Finally, Vengeful Flash lets you turn the enemy’s offense against them by allowing you to deal respectable damage while protecting yourself from incoming attacks as well.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Best Weapon Skills for Each Vocation
Recommended Core Skills
Core Skill | Effects | Details |
---|---|---|
True Deflect | Deflects attacks back toward the target with impressive might. While active, counterattacking consumes no Stamina. |

|
How to Unlock | Unlock at Fighter Vocation Rank 3 for 400 Dcp. |
Out of all of the Fighter’s core skills, True Deflect is arguably the only one of any real value for the vocation as it greatly enhances your defensive capabilities using timed shield blocks. If you have any more Dcp to spare, consider getting Tusk Toss and Steeled Foundation as they can be useful in certain situations.
Recommended Augment Skills
Augment Skill | Effects | How to Unlock |
---|---|---|
Mettle | Augments your physical Defense. | Unlock at Fighter Rank 2 for 200 Dcp. |
Endurance | Increases maximum Stamina. | Unlock at Archer Rank 4 for 900 Dcp. |

Ascendancy | Augments the Strength and Magick of pawns in your party. | Unlock at Magick Archer Rank 8 for 3,000 Dcp. |
Fighters can fulfill their tank role in the team most effectively by having high physical defense in addition to having enough stamina and stamina recovery to constantly guard or parry with their shield.
Additionally, you will want to be able to carry heavy equipment load, including armor that have high defense, so upgrading your carry weight should also be a priority.
