Game director considering legal action in light of leaked copies [Final Fantasy 15/ FFXV]

GAME DIRECTOR HAJIME TABATA ISSUES ANOTHER STATEMENT ON LEAKED COPIES BEING SOLD AROUND THE WORLD

It is now less than a week before Final Fantasy XV officially comes out (November 29, 2016). And while news of unauthorized early distribution of the game continues to circulate around the internet, Director Hajime Tabata has yet again expressed his disappointment on the matter. Now, it looks like Square Enix may have to take legal action should the incident affect the company’s business goals for the much-awaited title that took nearly a decade to produce.

Mr. Tabata has again spoken out on the incident, expressing how the whole team at Square Enix has since been in distress from word of the news.

“In Japanese we call it netabare (ネタバレ) and in English you call them spoilers – and they’re really coming out. They’re spoiling the fun for a lot of people who have been looking forward to Final Fantasy XV for such a long time. it’s causing a lot of worry for people involved in the sales of the game and in the production too. I’d really like to apologize about the fact that these kinds of problems are happening. It’s just a very sad state of affairs.”

Now, the company is weighing its options on whether to pursue a legal case, especially since spoilers ruin the experience of the game’s elaborate narrative – one of the most prominent selling points of the  Final Fantasy games.

“We’re currently looking into whether this kind of activities of spreading spoilers across the internet does legally constitute an obstruction of our business or not, and if it’s found out that it does then we’ll take legal measures to stop this being posted and take it down. We apologize for all the problems caused and all the worries, but we are taking solid steps to address this. It’s just not fair to spoil their fun of the people who have been waiting for such a long time, so please stop that right now.”

And while we understand the on-going hype to last well until the game’s official release, we deeply implore anyone who has an early copy to respect Square Enix’s efforts of delivering what hopes to be the greatest and most massive Final Fantasy experience to date.
