Berkut is one of the main antagonists in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Alm encounters him multiple times as the leader of the Resistance. Berkut leads the armies of the Rigelian empire, with the help of comrades such as Fernand. He abhors losing, seeking every chance to regain his honor every time Alm defeats him. He is also engaged to Lady Rinea in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
Stats
Berkut, as a calvary, has a long range of movement. He can literally tank majority of the tomes, rendering them useless. He also is a heavy RES tower, granting buffs to allies and himself. His weapon already grants additional RES which, gives him a starting RES stat at 10 if at level 1.

Strategy
Berkut is a Tome User’s Bane. Due to his high RES, he can tank majority of the tomes. Even Tomes with high ATK such as Delthea, Celica, and Nino struggle against Berkut. As a cavalry unit, he excels in places that have few obstacles. Trees and walls often block him so, having a tome standing behind him or having a few infantry units works well with him. However, there are other ways to do this such as using him as a lure. Because of his heightened DEF and RES, Berkut can soak up the damage before allowing his allies to counter attack.
One strategy to use for this hero is to stick him in a single pathway, creating a bottle neck. The enemies will then be forced to reroute, allowing either the tomes, archers, and daggers to unleash a devastating attack. This works especially well against Fliers and infantry characters.
For builds, Berkut can inherit a skill known as Fortify Cavalry. While it has a shorter range than Ward Cavalry, the amount given is bigger. This works well for players who prefer sticking their allies together. When placing him in a team, Berkut works well with Cecilia, Eldigan, and Clarine. All of the latter mentioned are Cavalry but with different uses. Cecilia can deal heavy damage against colorless enemies. Clarine is a healer and Eldigan can deal damage along with Berkut.
Counter
- Hector – Hector‘s Def hurts and he is able to absorb a lot of damage. His HP pool is big and it doesn’t help that he also has distant counter to deal heavy damage to Berkut.
- Camilla – Camilla has higher mobility than he does and her Brave Axe allows her to attack 4 times. Because of this, she can easily tear off large chunks of Berkut’s HP.
- Minerva – Similar to Camilla, she can easily close in the gap between him and her.
- Cherche – Cherche’s Hammer can deal heavy damage despite her lower defense. However, Berkut can sustain some of the damage. Cherche’s capacity to win against him depends also on how she’s built.
