Acquiring Skills
Recommended skills during the Initial stages
This is a chronologically arranged image of characters in order of the number of Stars accumulated. Each character obtains Skills by using the initial skills acquired by default, this varies across characters.
A character may also obtain certain special skills such as rarity obtainable skills.
Upon Leveling
By leveling, a character may obtain a skill. Since skills are unlocked at certain increments, the more levels a low-level character acquires, the better skills he will obtain.
Skills in the Previous Installments
In the older games, it requires certain conditions to pass on Skills from Parent to the offspring. This feature is unique to the Fire Emblem series. Thus it is possible that Fire Emblem: Heroes will also follow the same mechanic.
Introduction
Skills are unique abilities possessed by different characters. There are two usual ways to activate skills: One, they may be passive and are automatically in effect once a the character equips it; or two, these may be active and lumped into the miscellaneous category, an example of which is “Here they are!” To add, some skills take effect under some circumstances such as through a likelihood (% triggered upon receiving attack).

Skill Points, or easily referred to as SP. It is a significant element in Fire Emblem: Heroes.
Using Skill Points
As building blocks for Skills, each Character must distribute Skill Points. For each Skill, the SP varies, and it is not necessarily a strong skill when a huge amount of SP is allocated. Therefore, determine the recommended Skills first before allocating the SP.

By exposing characters to combat, this allows them to gain levels in order to learn new Skills to make them more adept in battle.
Final Blow
Staple in the Fire Emblem series is obtaining a massive amount of EXP (experience value) upon defeating enemies. If your roster consists of several novice characters, allow them to partake of battles. One way requires executing the Final Blow, this allows the character that dealt the it to maximize the amount of EXP gained. Consequently, characters will obtain Skill Points efficiently.
Training Tower
Apart from reaping rewards, the Training Tower provides a venue for characters to maximize the amount of levels gained. With a generous amount of EXP rewarded, this eases the acquisition of Skill Points. It is best to take advantage of this opportunity.
Other methods
Apart from the above mentioned steps, there are other ways to acquire Skill Points. As a matter of fact, the availability of Special Map and Stadium add new flavors to the mix.
