Age: 19

Race: Human-Daemon

Occupation: Pirate

Weapon: Gauntlet Blade

Personality:

Years ago before the imprisonment, Velvet could be seen as a loving and caring character. She loved her family and the village. Most of all, she cared deeply for her younger brother – Laphicet Crowe. She also got along well with her sister Cecilia Crowe and her brother-in-law Artorius Collbrande.

However, that all changed when the Scarlet Night took place. Losing all her siblings caused her to form a wall around her heart. She has a cold persona and keeps a mask on while focusing on the one thing that has kept her going: her revenge. Her hatred towards the one who caused the massacre and the traumatic event knew no bounds which is what constantly keeps her going. All that’s left of the once loving and caring character of Velvet is now a gloomy and dark facade that hides her loneliness due to being feared.

She once acted frustrated with Laphicet due to his obedience to The Abbey. But after spending time with him, she opens up slowly and is happy that she had given him a purpose in life. She also acts stubborn towards females and insists that she’d be given priority, especially when seeing Laphicet speak to Eleanour.

History:

Velvet grew up with no parents but worked alongside her siblings. She had two sibilings: an older sister, Cecilia Crowe and a younger brother, Laphicet Crowe. These two people became the core of her loving and kind character. She also showed support for Cecilia when she was getting married to Arthur.

However, that all changed one Scarlet Night. On one Scarlet Night, her village was raided by daemons. Daemons killed her older sister, leaving her and Arthur to raise Laphicet. While this marked the beginning of her hatred for Daemons, another event created a bigger trauma.

Three years before the storyline, another Scarlet Night occurred. While trying to accept the death of her older sister, another death occurs. This time, she loses Laphicet. But not for the reasons she initially believed. She finds her brother-in-law sacrificing her younger brother in a ritual. He attempts to do the same with her but due to her intense hatred and sheer willpower, all the malevolence condensed itself into her arm. Due to the uncertainty of her existence, Velvet spent her time in Titania Prison where she proceeded to absorb daemons. For the next three years, she did this before finally breaking out and vowing her vengeance against Artorius Collbrande.

Fighting Style:

Velvet is a melee character that relies purely on her Martial Artes to get her by. However, she also relies on her Gauntlet Blade for Arcane Artes. Her Martial Artes utilize her legs where she also hides blades in them. In the world of Berseria, she is considered of the Lancer class which are very reliant on combinations and quick attacks. However, she is also a Blood Knight in nature. The more damage she takes, the higher the damage she inflicts on her enemies.

Her Soul Break is known as the Consume Claw. She also has several Mystic Artes such as Lethal Pain, Severe Destruction Impact, and Impulse Desire. She also has a joint attack with Laphicet known as Innumerable Wounds.

Velvet is fast attacker which allows her to fulfill a more versatile role for the party by dishing out quick kicks using Martial Artes. In addition, her Soul Break “Consume Claw” also emphasizes on dealing damage. This extends a combo and continues the chain in order to deliver more damage using a combination of “Base artes” and “Arcane Artes.”

Techniques:

Technique Name Description
Consume Claw Soul Break Ability; this allows her to gain a random buff from an opponent while releasing a special attack.
Impulse Desire Mystic Artes
Lethal Pain Mystic Artes
Severe Destruction Impact Velvet first charges at the enemy, piercing her gauntlet blade through them. After that, she thrusts her open demonic hand at the target to knock them down with a black and red vortex.
Innumerable Wound Available only when partnered up with Laphicet.
“Resshi” The execution of this arte depends on your controller’s assigned hot-key. The direction of the attack varies from △ × front, □ to left, ○ to right. “Spirit” is acquired early in the game, however since the attack direction depends on the buttons used, it is recommended to be inputted for the first strike of the combo.
“Enketsu” This arte helps keep a combo chain going due to its short animation.
“Shingetsu” Not only is “The Moon” worth using due to its low Soul Gauge (SG) requirement (9), but it also serves as a great addition for chaining aerial arte since enemies can easily be launched into the air.
Mega Sonic Thrust A useful arte for piercing the high defense of the enemy. If you use it as a finisher (used as the fourth arte), you can send the opponent flying.
Infernal Torrent Similar to “Spirit,” this Base arte is great as an initial attack as it sends downed enemies flying. Be prepared to connect it with a low Soul Gauge (SG) consuming arte to compensate for the high Soul Gauge (SG) requirement.

How to set up Combo Chains

■ Combining Base Artes with Arcane artes

When performing a combo chain, it is recommended to combine Base artes with Arcane artes using the available Soul Gauge (SG).

Make sure to chain the Arcane arts to the fourth position

When Arcane artes is used as the fourth chain, it consumes less Soul Gauge (SG) as compared to its default Soul Gauge (SG) requirement when used at a different position.

Recommended Sample Combo Chains

■ “Eimu” → “Resshi” → “Enketsu” → “Shingetsu” or Swallow Dance

It uses less Soul Gauge (SG) when performed.

■ “Hougashuu” → Swallow Dance → “Rekkoujin” → Mega Sonic Thrust

The finisher launches the enemy into the air which consequently gives time for party members to use items or “surgical technique chanting.”

■ Infernal Torrent → Rising Falcon → Swallow Dance → Arcane Artes that require at most 30 Soul Gauge (SG)

Using Infernal Torrent sends the opponent flying even when already downed, making it reliable to initiate the combo.

Connecting Swallow Dance to Rising Falcon is a good staple move which is useful even when paired with other artes.

By the time Swallow Dance is used, the Soul Gauge consumed is 65. Thus, it is better to chain the combo with a finisher that only requires at most 30 Souls.
