What are Tools?
Items in this game are known as Tools. Tools are your best friend in Tales of Berseria. These items can either make or break a battle, depending on how you use them. Different tools mean different effects. Some of these effects can buff you or debuff the enemy. When using tools however, enemies can interrupt you mid-way through the command. To prevent this, move to one side to prevent interruptions. Like most games, there are no invincibility frames that prevent an enemy from stopping you.
HP Healing Tools
These items focus on healing your HP. They are your typical potions when trying to survive against a boss. For those who have played the former Tales games, the healing items here are known as gels instead of the usual potions. However, these items cannot cure any conditions.

Effect Tools: Bottles
These are effects quite literally placed in a bottle. These items can turn the tides of battle especially when you’re in a pinch. Items such as Soul Bottles, Life Bottles, and Elixirs can help bolster your team and win the battle.

Herbs
Herbs are consumables in both cooking and also in battle. These tools are more on buffs and can save your characters when in a pinch. Also, these items are important in cooking especially when making certain dishes that have powerful effects. Many of these herbs can either be store bought or picked up from the ground.
