Strategy

Use trigger commands

Talking to Seymour with trigger commands when the battle begins raises Tidus’ strength, and Yuna and Wakka’s magic defense.

Taking out the Guado guardians

The Guado guardians will set up Protect on themselves before casting Shell on Seymour. You can try to petrify them using Kimahri’s Stone Breath Overdrive to easily take them out of the fight. The guardians will also use Hi-Potions whenever they are hit with physical attacks. Have Rikku steal from them to prevent them from doing so.

Defeating Seymour and Anima

Try to dispel Shell from Seymour to make magic attacks effective against him. You can also summon Ixion and use Areospark to negate his Shell status.

Casting Yuna’s Nul spells allows you to prevent the damage from Seymour’s arsenal of spells. Note that Seymour casts magic in a specific order, which is Blizzard, Thunder, Water, and Fire. Auron’s Magic Break helps you somewhat mitigate the damage from his attacks during the fight as well.

Seymour will summon Anima when his HP falls to 3,000. At this stage, you will be able to summon Shiva for the fight, preferably with a full Overdrive gauge to quickly burst down Anima with Diamond Dust. Be aware of Anima’s Overdrive gauge when it is about to use Oblivion and have Shiva use Shield. Continue to pummel Anima with Shiva until Seymour dismisses his aeon.

After defeating Anima, Seymour will have his HP restored to maximum and have an increased magic stat. He will also cast multi versions of his spells that do significantly more damage. These will still follow the same order as the earlier stages of the fight.

Cast Haste on Yuna and reapply Nul spells to protect your party against Seymour’s magic. Unload on Seymour with Overdrives and keep healing any party members that are near death to push through this fight.
