Strategy

Marth sets himself apart from other Sword wielders due to his well-rounded stat distribution. Having access to both stellar offense (Atk, Spd), and durability (HP, Def) makes great in close quarter combat.

Equipped with a Falchion in his default kit, Marth can take advantage of healing while threatening certain opposing dragonstone users. Even against other units, Marth can sustain damage thanks to his reasonable defense, allowing him to freely exchange attacks against units who are on par with his stats and heal back HP lost.

With the advent of Skill inheritance, Marth appreciates bolstering his offensive capability with Passive Skills like Fury 3 and Swordbreaker 3 to combat opposing Sword type units. To capitalize on his durability, he can also run the above mentioned skills in tandem with Threaten Atk 3 or Threaten Spd 3 depending on the boon/bane and role he is assigned in the team.

Marth is not without flaws however since he has a glaring weakness to enemies with high Magic Atk. He is particularly vulnerable to Blue Tome users such as Reinhardt who has access to Dire Thunder and Linde who occupies the upper hierarchy of the tier.

He appreciates teammates who cover his pitiful Res. Heroes such as Hector and Nowi cover Marth’s weakness to Blue units, especially with some Res investment for the armored ones. In return, Marth can pass heals with Reciprocal Aid. Tome units like Julia and Nino can also check certain Blue units that give Marth trouble, while he can in turn block opposing Red units with his respectable defenses.

Counter

  • Corrin F – Despite her weakness to Falchion, having Swordbreaker 3 and Threaten Atk 3 grants her an opportunity to weaken Marth’s offensive potential to prey on his Res.
  • Ephraim – As a defensive support and type-advantageous hero, Ephraim can either pass buffs and threaten Marth’s Def, enabling either him or his allies to prey on Marth with relative ease, or tank his hits easily while exchanging attacks.
  • Robin M – His well-balanced stats rival Marth’s and his edge over the Altean Prince is his access to Magic which pierce Marth’s weak Res.
  • Lilina – Another tome unit who although she shares the same typing as Marth, her offense by sniping him from afar is deadly as it leaves Marth’s Res open when placed in a dangerous position during the enemy phase. Her trait as a glasscannon can however be a double edged sword as it makes her equally vulnerable in case Marth gets the upper hand in battle.
