What is Knife Durability?

Knife durability is a weapon mechanic in Resident Evil 4 Remake that determines the condition of Leon’s personal Combat Knife armament throughout the game. As you use the blade to strike targets or parry incoming enemy attacks, the knife durability is reduced.

Resident Evil 4 Remake How to Increase Attache Case Storage

Knife weapons previously had no durability counter in the original version of the game released in 2005 for the Playstation 2. This mechanic was changed in Resident Evil 2 Remake and was subsequently applied to Resident Evil 4 Remake as well.

Becomes virtually useless when at 0 durability (broken state).

When the Combat Knife reaches 0 durability, it will break. This prevents you from using the blade effectively in battle along with disabling parrying. Because of this, try to maintain your weapon’s condition at all times while exploring various locations in the game.

Can be repaired at the Weapon Merchant’s shop.

The Combat Knife can be repaired at the Weapon Merchant’s shop under Tune Up using the in-game currency Pesetas (ptas). Be sure to stop by the shop to have your knife fixed in addition to upgrading weapons or purchasing items whenever you get the chance to.

Only the Combat Knife can be repaired.

Note that Leon’s Combat Knife is the only melee weapon that can be repaired at the Weapon Merchant’s shop. Certain disposable blade weapons that you pick up while going through the game cannot be fixed to restore their durability.

Tips to Maintain Knife Durability

Breaking free from grab attacks using the knife greatly reduces durability.

Using your knife to free yourself when you are grabbed by an enemy will lower the weapon’s durability by a lot. Because of this, you can try shaking of the enemy instead.
