Survival Skill Guide [Final Fantasy 15/ FFXV]

THIS SECTION CONTAINS A GUIDE ON GLADIOLUS' SURVIVAL SKILL FOR FINAL FANTASY XV

This page contains a guide on Gladiolus’ Survival skill in Final Fantasy XV, including basic mechanics, strategies and tips and tricks in the game.

Survival Skill

While venturing across the wilds and perils of Eos, Gladiolus can obtain items after every battle using the Survival Skill. It is required to defeat all enemies during the encounter to activate this skill’s effects.

Skill Level

The Survival Skill levels up with the number of steps that you take during your travels. Gladiolus will obtain SP based on the difference between two counters: the “Current Step Total” and “Step Total at Previous Rest”.

A simplified explanation of the Survival Skill is indicated below:

  • Gladiolus’ Survival level determines both the probability of finding an item, and what the item will be. As the skill increases, the selection of items improves.
  • The number of steps Noctis has taken since Gladiolus last found an item influences the chance that he will find another after the next battle.

Reward Probability

Gladio may find an item after every battle once all enemies in the combat area have been defeated. The probability of finding an item is determined  by the number of steps that Noctis has taken since the previous battle. This probability of a successful survival check (p) that results in an item is indicated in the formula:

p = (10 + Skill Level)/100

As you take more steps between each battle, you will have a greater chance of obtaining an item as a reward. The number of times the game does this calculation (n) is expressed as:

n = (Current Step Total – Step Total After Previous Battle) x 0.01

This means that the game processes the p calculation n times. This stops as soon as you obtain an item through the skill. Only one item will obtained per battle. The final item reward probability r for each battle is expressed as:

r = 1 – (1 – p)n

Reward Types

Gladiolius’ Survival Level has very little impact on the overall chance  that an item will be obtained. The Survival Level is better looked at as a way to determine what item you will get.

  1. Hi Wolf knight. This is great information. I would like to know if n can be 0, resulting in r also being 0? Or does n have a minimum value of 1?

  2. I would like to know if the game also counts Chocobo steps towards the item chance. Walking normally everywhere would be pretty inconvenient.
