Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Arete Stone Features

What You Can Do at the Arete Stone

Below are features in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) that you can access via the Arete Stone at The Hideaway.

Training Mode: Hall of Virtue

In training mode, you can practice combos against various enemies while being able to see your total damage output. You can tweak various settings such as preventing the enemy from taking damage (letting you practice for as long as you like) or turn on the Magic Burst timing setting (useful for learning and practicing the timing of Magic Bursts).

Arcade Mode

Arcade Mode is a score attack mode which allows you to go through various levels to earn high scores. Your performance is then ranked along with other players on the online leaderboard. To get high scores in Arcade Mode, try to perform certain actions such as dodging the enemy’s attack with Precision Dodge, executing combos, and performing different Battle Techniques.

Stage Replay

Stage Replay is a useful feature for collecting items or finding treasure chests that you missed throughout the game’s main story. Note that you can rerun specific points of the main story with your current level, stats, equipment, and abilities carried over, making it easier to clear certain battles compared to when you first went through them.

Chronolith Trials

Chronolith Trials is a challenge mode that lets players clear stages with a variety of conditions applied such as being able to use only one Eikon or being required to beat the level before time runs out. Normal and Hard difficulty trials are available, with the latter only accessible on Final Fantasy Mode.

A Chronolith Trial is added to the Arete Stone when you locate and interact with a Chronolith scattered around the game world. Once you have registered a Chronolith Trial, you can run it as many times as you like via the Arete Stone in The Hideout.

Tips for Getting High Scores in Arcade Mode

Stack as much damage as you can on enemies.

You can increase your score in Arcade Mode by getting high Battle Performance points based on the damage dealt to enemies. Note that the number of foes that appear in each stage is fixed which somewhat makes it difficult to raise your score on just damage output alone.

Use various abilities and Battle Techniques to earn more points.

Actions such as using Eikonic Abilities, activating Battle Techniques, performing combos, or hitting multiple enemies will increase your Battle Performance as well. If you are aiming for high scores, try to perform these actions as often as you can in each battle. Be sure to know the properties of your different abilities as well from the Abilities screen to know which moves you should use frequently.

Battle Performance Score Table

Color ★★ ★★★
White 100 300 500
Blue 500 700 900
Light Blue 2,000 4,000 6,000
Green 20,000 25,000 30,000
Rainbow 40,000 50,000 60,000

You can determine the score you get from various actions from the color of the letters and number of stars when activating them. The more difficult it is to pull off an action, ability, or Battle Technique, the higher the score you get when you execute it in battle.

Competing for High Scores Online Against other Players

As mentioned, Arcade Mode lets you compete against other players via the online leaderbaord based on your score. Bear in mind that enemies behave differently and may appear in greater numbers in Arcade Mode compared to battles encountered in the game’s main story and is suited for replaying.

How to Unlock the Arete Stone and Locations

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Arete Stone

The Arete Stone becomes accessible at Cid’s Hideaway during the main story. The location is a place you can reach in about 2 to 3 hours from the start of the game. The Arete Stone itself is located in the Great Hall of Cid’s Hideaway. Once you have opened your map and found the Great Hall, walk northwest (just across Charon’s Toll).
