What is the Will gauge?

Gauge displayed below the HP gauge of powerful enemies.

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Will Gauge

The Will gauge is a special meter (indicator) that appears below the HP gauge of powerful enemies in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16). This gauge is absent for normal enemies.

Landing an attack on enemies will reduce their Will gauge. Reducing the meter down to 50% will temporarily stagger your foe and interrupt their actions.

When an enemy’s Will gauge becomes 0, they will be forced into the “Takedown” state which makes them temporarily defenseless.

Enemies take increased damage when in Takedown state.

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Takedown State

Enemies are immobilized for a while when in Takedown state and will take increased damage from your attacks (up to a maximum of 1.5x).

Also, any damage dealt during Takedown will be displayed as “Total Damage ” when the enemy recovers from the defenseless state.

How to Increase Will Gauge Damage

Raise the Will stat.

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Weapon Will Damage

The higher Clive’s Will stat is, the easier it is to deplete the Will gauge of enemies.

Will Damage using Eikon Abilities

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Eikon Ability Will Damage

Attack Power and Will Damage are set at a maximum of 5 levels for Eikon Abilities.

Garuda’s Gouge move has an Attack Power of 2 and Will Damage of 4, making it the perfect ability for shaving quickly shaving off portions of an enemy’s Will gauge.

On the other hand, Titan’s Windup move has an Attack Power of 4 and Will Damage of 2. This makes it unsuitable for depleting an enemy’s Will quickly.

Despite this, Windup is good to use after a Takedown because of its high Attack Power.
