Gil Farming Guide for Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)

Defeat enemies in battle to earn Gil (money).

You can earn Gil (money) in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) by simply defeating enemies in battle. Various foes will drop money as loot when they are killed so be sure to pick up any glittering icons you see around the area.

Farming enemies is also a good way to earn experience (EXP) to level up fast and Ability Points to upgrade Clive’s various Abilities and Eikonic Feats. You will benefit from spending time fighting monsters to accumulate Gil and levels as you progress through the game’s later chapters.

It is recommended to equip the pre-order bonus Cait Sith Charm (accessory) when farming enemies for Gil to increase the amount of money you get by 25%.

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Bonus Accessory (Cait Sith Charm)Cait Sith Charm Increases Gil earned by 25%.
Description A good-luck charm modeled after the front foot of the mythical “Cait Sith,” a cat with a pelt of spun gold, whose claws rake in treasure from the very earth. The legend likely has its origins in apocryphal tales of the common Valisthean coeurl — what with the rich, golden gloss of the creature’s coat, and its distinctive habit of pawing at the ground before striking at its prey.

Equip Ring of Timely Strikes and Ring of Timely Evasion (Timely Accessories)

Equipping the Ring of Timely Strikes (auto attack) and Ring of Timely Evasion (auto dodge) can also help you farm regular enemies as these items essentially do half the work of fighting enemies for you.

Ring of Timely Strikes (Timely Accessory)

Name Effect
Ring of Timely Strikes When equipped, complex ability combinations can be executed by simply pressing ◻.
Description “If there were a ring that transformed a novice swordsman’s awkward jerks and jabs into a veritable dance of precisely executed flourishes, one might wonder why every knight in the realm didn’t have one of their own.”

Ring of Timely Evasion (Timely Accessory)

Name Effect
Ring of Timely Evasion When equipped, Clive will automatically evade attacks, as long as the attack can be evaded.
Description “Fleetness of foot requires lightning-quick reflexes, eagle-like vision, and razor-sharp focus, not to mention the calves of a puma. That, or this convenient ring.”

Set the Gameplay Focus (Difficult) to Story Focus

It is also recommended to change the Gameplay Focus (difficulty) to Story Focus which lowers enemy HP and attack power. Doing so lets you clear battles with less effort than on Action Focus mode and is recommended for farming money in the game.

Do Side Quests.

Clearing side quests is also a good way to farm money in the game. As you visit new areas and locations, try to talk to non-player characters (NPCs) with a green exclamation point above their head which indicate that a side quest can be initiated. Once activated, you can open Alliant Reports from the game’s menu to quickly fast travel to a side quest’s location.

Many side missions can only be unlocked by progressing further into the main story or by completing pre-requisite quests within what are called chain quests (or questlines). Try to do as many side quests as you can before leaving a specific town or village in the game.

Do Hunts and slay Notorious Marks.

You can also get lots of money fast in the game by doing Hunts which can be initiated from the Hunt Board at Cid’s Hideaway. Completing this optional missions is also a good way to earn useful items and Ability Points (AP) so it is worth taking the time off the main story to do them.

The higher the rank of a Notorious Mark, the better the rewards. More difficult Hunts that require you to take down powerful monsters will naturally yield more money when you clear them.

Sell Gil Bugs.

Gil Bugs obtained from side quests serve no other purpose than to be sold off for 200 Gil each. As mentioned, try to clear as many optional missions as you can to receive lots of Gil Bugs as rewards.

Offload unwanted items at shops.

Another good way to get money fast is to sell items you do not need at shops. Things you can offload to earn Gil range from various consumable items to gear (weapons, armor, and accessories) that you do not need anymore.
