How to Defeat Guarding Enemies Guide for Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)
Best Ways to Attack Guarding Enemies
Attack from behind enemies.
In Final Fantasy XVI (FF16), guarding enemies can mostly only block attacks in front of them. When they are defending, their back will be defenseless which is where you should aim your strikes. As soon as you see an enemy put up their guard, try going around them before hacking away at where they are vulnerable.
Attack using specific abilities.
Clive has a few abilities that can break an enemy’s guard. This allows you to aim your strikes from the front without having to go behind your foe. Be sure to use these abilities wisely based on the current situation in battle.
Abilities that Can Break an Enemy’s Guard
Burning Blade
Burning Blade can be used by pressing and holding the ▢ button (normal attack). This close-range sword attack is capable of breaking through an enemy’s defenses because of the power Clive puts behind the strike.
Charged Magic
Charged Magic is also an effective way of penetrating an enemy’s guard. To do Charged Magic, press and hold the △ button (magic attack). Note that Charged Magic shots take on different names based on the type of spell you use (Fire → Fira, Aero → Aerora, Stone → Stonera, etc.). This indicates that the Magic shot fired is more powerful.
