After clearing the main story of Final Fantasy XVI (FF16), your save file will be marked with “★clear”. Loading this save data will allow you to begin New Game Plus (NG+).
New Game Plus (NG+)
New Game Plus (NG+) is unlocked once you have beaten the game’s main story for the first time. This allows you to replay the game with various features from your previous playthrough carried over.

NG+ Gameplay Changes
Below is a list of gameplay changes and other new features exclusive to NG+.
- Final Fantasy Mode (Hard Mode) becomes selectable at the start of the game.
- Maximum weapon upgrades are raised to six levels from three.
- New reforged weapons are unlocked for crafting.
- Duplicate accessory synthesis is unlocked (enables stacking of the same accessory effects into one accessory).
- Young Clive story section can be skipped (intro chapter).
- Arcade Mode unlocked.
- Chronolith Trials unlocked.
- Utterance of Creation obtained.
Final Fantasy Mode (Hard Difficulty)
Final Fantasy Mode also becomes available upon clearing the game once. This difficulty mode is significantly more challenging than Action Focused and applies a few major gameplay changes listed below. Bear in mind that you cannot change to Action Focus or Story Focus mode after starting the game on Final Fantasy difficulty.

Final Fantasy Mode (Hard Mode) Exclusive Features
Below is a list of gameplay changes and other new features exclusive to Final Fantasy Mode (Hard Mode)
- Significantly more powerful enemies encountered throughout the main story.
- Enemies encountered in various areas are different from those in Action Focused and Story Focused mode (late-game enemies appear much earlies in the story or may appear in greater numbers).
- Character level cap is raised to 100.
- Ultima Weapon is unlocked for crafting (best weapon in NG+).
- Final Chronolith Trials unlocked.
- Ultimaniac Mode unlocked (Arcade Mode).
NG+ carry-over features and gameplay changes are also implemented when playing on Final Fantasy difficulty.
Ultima Weapon (Best Weapon in the Game)
The Ultima Weapon, known throughout the Final Fantasy series as the best armament in the game, can only be crafted on Final Fantasy Mode (NG+).

Arcade Mode
Arcade Mode is another post-game feature that lets you challenge specific battles throughout the game’s main story to earn high scores. Your performance in Arcade Mode can then be compared to those of other players via the leaderboards.

Ultimaniac Mode (Ultra Hard Difficulty)
Exclusive to Final Fantasy Mode’s Arcade Mode is Ultimaniac difficulty which is touted to be the game’s “hardest” game mode. Players can expect enemies to be even more challenging than those that appear in Final Fantasy Mode and is suited for hardcore players.

Chronolith Trials
Chronolith Trials are timed challenges that consist of several stages that increase in difficulty as you progress further. In Chronolith Trials, you must clear three (3) rounds of regular enemies before facing a boss to advance to the next section.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) Chronoloth Trials Locations and Guide
To earn more time in a trial, you must meet specific objectives in battle such as using certain Eikon abilities or landing different combos on foes. Players can compete for ranks in the online leaderboards by earning high scores in this mode.
Final Chronolith Trials
Final Chronolith Trials are essentially harder Chronolith Trials that are only available in Final Fantasy Mode. As with the regular timed challenges, players are ranked in the online leaderboard based on their scores in this mode.
Utterance of Creation (Material)
The rare crafting material Utterance of Creation is automatically obtained when you start a NG+ playthrough. It is one of the materials required to forge the Ultima Weapon.
