What are Bearers Guide for Final Fantasy XVI (FF 16)
What is a Bearer?
Commonly treated as slave in Valisthea
Bearer Overview
A bearer can conjure magic without the use of Mothercrystals, a mountain of crystals that bless humans with magic.
Most of the bearers are marked with a tattoo on their cheeks and branded as slaves, depending on the nation in which they were born.
Enslaving bearers has become prevalent throughout the history of Valisthea. During this period, bearers have failed to receive any support.
Bearer’s Mark and Petrification
Bearers are frequently treated as tools due to their ability to use magic without the use of crystals.
A mark can be seen on the bearer’s face, which indicates that they are being used as a tool for their nation.
Their power may not be as powerful as that of a Dominant, but it is still something to be wary of. Although excessive use of their magic takes a heavy toll on their bodies and may cause them to become petrified.
Many bearers have fallen as a result of petrification.

Other Information about Bearers
Clive Rosfield himself is a Bearer
From a prince of a vast kingdom to a bearer who only follows orders, Clive’s fate drastically changed after the tragic deaths of his brother and father.
The mark of a bearer can be seen on Clive’s face after the events that occurred during his childhood.
He would later carry on the path of revenge against Ifrit, the second aspect of fire that defeated the Phoenix Eikon.
Identifying Bearers
Those identified as bearers by their nation will have their cheeks marked.
This mark is used to easily distinguish the bearer from others.
Marking Bearers
In order to determine whether a child possesses the ability of a bearer, an examination is conducted on them soon after birth.
Some of the bearers managed to escape the examination and were not marked, but this case is extremely rare.
Petrification
A phenomenon in which bearers and dominants who continue to use magic harden their bodies.
Continuous use of magic takes a huge toll on the bodies of bearers, but this petrification does not occur on humans who use crystals to conjure magic.
Petrification is accompanied by great suffering, and if it spreads, even the freedom of the body is taken away, eventually leading to death and finally dissolving into sand.
There is no known cure for this phenomenon.
