Is One Piece Odyssey Coming to Nintendo Switch?
One Piece Odyssey is set for release on January 12th, 2023 for the Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Steam (PC). As of now, nothing has been said about a Nintendo Switch release so it is uncertain if the game will release on the Nintendo Switch.
Do video game sales and reception influence port release?
Before One Piece Odyssey, there was One Piece World Seeker and One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. World Seeker is an open-world action adventure, whereas Pirate Warriors 4 is a beat-em-up action adventure.
World Seeker was released on March 15, 2019, and received poor sales and reception. Despite the fact that its producer, Rei Hirata, stated that it would be ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2018 if there was a clamor from One Piece fans, it failed to meet expectations due to low sales and mixed reviews. Keep in mind that the Nintendo Switch port was not considered during World Seeker’s development because the Nintendo Switch console was only recently released in the market.
When One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 was released on March 27, 2020, it was already available on Nintendo Switch. In contrast to World Seeker, it has above-average sales and a favorable reception. It had sold over 2 million copies as of August 2022.
Our Conclusion for the Nintendo Switch release
Even though the Nintendo Switch release date has not been announced, it is likely that it will be released on the console. If One Piece Odyssey does extremely well in terms of sales and reception, it will undoubtedly be ported to the system. Another reason is that the Nintendo Switch market in Japan is massive, and One Piece has a large fanbase in Japan, increasing the likelihood that the game will be released on Nintendo Switch in the future.
