Is One Piece Odyssey Canon?

Despite One Piece author Eichiro Oda’s direct involvement in One Piece Odyssey, the game is not part of the series canon. This news is somewhat unsurprising given the number of media released under the One Piece franchise, which includes various other games and movies, that have not been considered part of the narrative depicted in the manga and anime series.

Fans of One Piece can still expect a high level of immersion into the One Piece universe thanks to Mr. Oda’s role in the game’s development. According to Odyssey’s official website, the acclaimed author’s duties include handling the design of new characters and monsters as well as contributing to the main plot.
“ONE PIECE ODYSSEY is an RPG project to commemorate ONE PIECE brand’s 25th Anniversary, which combines classic staples of the JRPG genre with the unique elements of ONE PIECE. This game has been lovingly crafted over many years to ensure that fans can truly touch the world of ONE PIECE… and now, ONE PIECE ODYSSEY is ready to set sail!
Produced with a direct involvement from Eiichiro Oda, the author of ONE PIECE contributed to this project both with new characters and monster designs and with the main plot. The game is also complemented by a soaring soundtrack scored by composer Motoi Sakuraba, well known for his musical contributions to video games such as the Dark Souls and Tales of series.”
Certain features exclusive to the game may eventually appear in the main series (to be confirmed).
One Piece Odyssey may include new characters, monsters, abilities, and events that have not appeared in the manga or anime. Depending on the reception of players and Mr. Oda’s decision, some of these original ideas may find their way into the canon in the future.
