This page contains a guide ON UNDERSTANDING THE MECHANICS WITHIN THE GAME

Beginner’s Guide

Welcome to The Surge! Is it your first time playing this type of Action-RPG? This beginner’s guide will show you several tips on how to play the game, as well as several points to remember while traversing the world within the game.

System Mechanics

Gauges

There are 3 players gauges that you need to keep on within the game. There is the HP gauge, which measures how much more damage you can take from the enemy until your avatar dies.

There is also the Stamina gauge, which measure how much you can run or swing your weapon. The stamina gauge fills up every time you are idle or just walking around the area.

And lastly, there is the Energy gauge, which is a gauge that you need in order to perform Executions, which we will get into later.

Implants

Implants in The Surge are like upgrades in other games, as they can raise your maximum HP or Stamina. However, some Implants could increase your damage output or decrease the damage that you take from enemies.

Equipment

In The Surge, there are multiple headgear, torso armor, and weapons that you can equip to increase your offensive and defensive power. However, their is a gauge that you need to look out for which is the “Core Power Consumption” gauge. Most pieces of equipment consume a specific amount of Core Power, so be mindful when combining each piece.

Battle Mechanics

Body Parts

In The Surge, you can sever the body parts of enemies wherever you like. Whether its the enemy’s arms, torso, or head, you can sever these body parts in order to get scraps or equipment that can be obtained by severing a specific body part.

If you want the headgear that the enemy is wearing, you may want to take the enemy’s head off, or if you want its right arm weapon, sever its arms using your weapon. But how do you separate the body parts off the enemy? The answer is through execution.

However, if you only want to kill the enemy easily without getting its equipment, you may want to target its unarmored part (weakness) as it will deal more damage.

Execution

In order to sever a specific body part, you need to build up your Energy meter until the screen shows you that you can perform an Execution using the square button.
