5 Ways of How Not To Die in the Surge

While the Surge is similar to any Dark Souls game, the fact is – it has some additional mechanics that may be troublesome for those who are using this as an initiation. Similar to Koei Tecmo’s Nioh and From Software’s Dark Souls, you’ll be facing creatures that are probably opportunistic. Instead of creatures, you’ll be facing mutates, aliens, and all sorts of robots that may smash your guts out. So, how do you not die in the Surge? Here are five ways on how not to have your butt handed to you.

die

Hit the enemy’s weakness.

In the first part of the game, you won’t have any special shazam powers. There’s nothing in your bloody arsenal that’s going to keep you alive if you’re going to get riddled with bullets. However, there is a way to do one of those godlike no-damage runs. For starters, hit the enemy’s weaknesses. The fact that they’re not armoured means one thing. Take advantage of it. Exploit their weaknesses and take them out before they take you out.

If in the middle of a mob, take the easy kills.

This is one thing that murders everyone in anything similar to Dark Souls. The moment the enemies start gathering around you, you only have one option: break through them. As the mobs come after you, take out the ones that are easy to kill. As you take out the ones that are easy to waste, you not only gain more experience points but also some armour in the long run. And if you want to swap to better armour, you may as well farm it out from the smaller creatures.

UPGRADE YOUR ARMOR.

This is one of the most important things as to what the Surge is built on. Unlike Dark Souls, the Surge has both a crafting system and an upgrade system which can increase your survivability. While the armours in Dark Soul are just there for some swag, the armour in the Surge plays a bigger role. So, one tip: make sure you have enough shards and materials to upgrade your armour. Too much armour never hurt.

If there are too many enemies then, pick them off one by one.

With any Souls-like game, you’re not supposed to Leeroy Jenkins it. That means, you’ll die and get punked. So, if you find yourself cornered by two strong enemies, try to lure them away from each other one by one. With that, you can trap the enemy against the wall and prevent them from moving past you. In doing so, you’ll not only limit their movement but also give yourself an advantage of not having to deal with moving around too much.

Observe enemy patterns.

If you’re looking at an enemy, the first thing you have to learn is the pattern. Unless you’re a telepath and some god of gaming then, you’re gonna have to crawl up like the rest of us. Watch the enemy patterns such as their combo attacks or their big attacks that can rip a chunk out of your life. Use your dodges and watch out for any incoming attacks. Most people would go with the “hit-and-run” strategy but some enemies can quickly cover the distance which makes that particular strategy less viable.
